Memphis Recruits

You and the UT asst were the only two who knew; doesn't count if BTO doesn't know/have him listed.

They told CCM Austin was coming to UT, and he replied, " We got Nichols...?"

I am not really sure what your point is, but if you follow what transpired last week, that is what happened.

Not sure why we always get questioned on our message board. I don't mind good-natured discussions, but the constant challenging of facts gets old. I am not BTO, and I follow recruiting in basketball and football. I am also from Memphis and grew up a Memphis basketball fan. Geez.

I hope no one missed what you said. Great stuff. You've been throwing heat lately.

You may not believe it, but doesn't mean it's wrong. We are not in the market for a guard anymore. Once Austin jumped, we did not need Mitchell. If Mitchell had jumped, then we probably don't take Austin.

It's not like we lost him. But, that happens at Memphis, too.

Martin is turning away 4 star prospects now? Is that what you're saying?

Well he's not a 4* on every service, so I guess it depends which you're going by, but yes. Agree with it or not, the fact is that after Austin committed Zach McCormick, Tadric Jackson and Devin Mitchell all lost their spot. This same thigh happened with Demery, when Cornish committed the staff is no longer recruiting demery.

So you're telling me, with a straight face, that if Devin Mitchell wanted to commit to UTK today, Martin would tell him tough luck???

Not even you can believe that.

So you're telling me that Mitchell scheduled an OV for October 19th to Tennessee with Jordan Cornish 2 weeks ago. He announced this OV, and it was in fact his only scheduled OV. Larry Austin commits the next day, the following day Mitchell releases a top 8 that doesn't include Tennessee, after 2 days earlier scheduling an OV to Tennessee..

Zach McCormick who had named Tennessee his leader a couple weeks prior, now after the Austin commitment doesn't have Tennessee in his top 5...

Do the math MC...this has been confirmed by Rob Lewis, the staff is not taking another guard, they are turning their focus to a forward and a big. It was a first come first serve offer, which is why Larry Austin committed WITHOUT EVERY STEPPING FOOT ON CAMPUS. The staff informs their guard targets they were only taking one, whoever jumped first got it, and that was Austin.

So Martin would've told him to keep walking? Ridiculous.

No that's not what would've went down, because Mitchell knew he didn't have a stop any longer. Therefore, Martin wouldn't have had to tell him, keep walking if he'd have tried to commit today.

Like I said, believe what you want, but your arrogance is glaring if you're gonna sit here as a Memphis fan and tell me with a straight face that you know more about what's going on with Tennessee recruiting than Rob Lewis, Brent Hubbs, Randy Moore etc.

As I have already told you, this has been widely discussed SINCE Austin committed. Offers to McCormick, Jackson and Mitchell were all pulled off the table...the same thing happened with 4* James Demery when Cornish committed, they stopped recruiting him.

Isn't it better than telling a guy already on scholly to?

Sorry to butt in your convo, but I'm just suprised by your suprise. Not like we're bragging about it. Its just a matter of need really.

So it's the consensus between Vol fans that they think Martin would've told 4 star PG Devin Mitchell to kick rocks rather than finding him a scholarship for next season?

I'd like to hear from some more knowledgeable and reasonable Vol fans before I condemn the whole fanbase, if you guys can find me some.

EDIT: I guess you could call Mitchell a "combo" guard or even a 2 guard, but that's really not the point.

So once again ill ask...you're apparently more knowledgable and in tune with how Coach Martin is recruiting the 2014 class than Rob Lewis, Brent Hubbs, Randy Moore etc?

You continue to avoid the other parts of my post....Mitchell isn't the only evidence of this. The staff cut ties with Tadric Jackson, Zach McCormick and James Demery to name a few...all guys who are considered pretty highly rated (McCormick not so much).

Haha, these discussions used to be somewhat fun and entertaining, but now, they think they know how our team should recruit. Got it.

We have a PG and SG from the 2013 class and already a PG (Austin) and SG (Cornish) from the 2014 class, and they expect us to continue recruiting guards when we have 1-2 (debatable) spots left? Got it.

Because those guys are going to be as good as advertised so there is no need to more depth........... Gothcha

Well, considering we already have at least 4 other guards returning for 2014. That is 8 guards. We have 3 legitimate F-C players for 2014 if Stokes leaves. This is not a team that is run by Pastner- we actually like to recruit post players!

GTFO

As Volgee said, take a look at our roster instead of making blind statements. We are guard/wing heavy, we are in desperate need of post guys. Would I have loved to of had Mitchell, sure, but with only 1 or 2 spots left, those scholarships are reserved for bigs.
