I don't think they send out Season Tix with the Welfare checks.

If there aren't 18,500 people in the city/surround area of Memphis that have enough money to go to a Grizzlies game on a regular basis then there is a REAL problem with the salaries AutoZone, Northwest, FedEx, and International Paper employees have.

If you think there aren't socioeconomic factors at play, explain why Memphis and New Orleans are at the bottom of NBA attendance. The real NBA fans in those cities don't have the disposable income to throw at a mediocre to awful team.

How many of the folks who send their kids to Briarcrest or St. George's give a damn about the NBA? They're the dweebs sitting around talking about how awful Allen Iverson's tatoos are and fearing that if they attend a game Steven Jackson might whip their a$$.

So are we assuming poor, black, people are the biggest (and 'true') NBA fans, then?

Poverty has nothing to do with attendance at the games. the FedEx Forum is in a great area of downtown, and there are plenty of people that are able to spend some of their disposable income on a game or two (or 41) per season. They just refuse to.

I would almost bet that the poverty level has more to do with it than you think. Look at where they are pulling people in from. The number of people in an area doesn't determine the number of ticket sales, income does. I would rather have the Griz in Nashville, than the Preds. I would almost guarantee you B-Ball would work in Nashville.

There are delusional Memphis fans, as well. They'll talk crap about UT football. It happened at the game last year. I can't believe how many Tigers commented that UT was "afraid" to play Memphis. I think the series score is something like 21-1. Additionally, I can't count how many times I've been to a bar here in Memphis to witness a large mass of people rooting (passionately) for whoever UT is playing in whatever sport. I mean, there's just no way 30 LSU fans are gathered in a bar in Memphis during the SEC BBall tourney.

I attended a private school in Memphis. Many of my good friends attended Briarcrest, CBHS, MUS and St. Georges.

Many of them went to Grizzlies games on a regular basis.

Of course it would! Nashville has already shown it is capable of supporting a professional team of any sort.

1. The NBA would fail miserably in Nashville.
2. There's no debate that the NBA's core audience is urban males 15-35.

Yeah, they've supported the Predators so well that the plane to Kansas City is on the tarmac.

When your pulling from the 27th richest county in the nation in Williamson county it makes sense why it would do better. Also with all the transplant people that live in Nashville and the fact Nashville has the most per capita millionaire in the nation (not 100% sure on accuracy of that quote), it would support moving them here to Nashville. Get the Preds out and welcome the Griz.

There are cities out there better suited for the NBA than either Memphis or Nashville.

If the Grizz left for Nashville I would despise that city more than I already do.

You have to admit though, its a better idea than the idea of Hockey or a MLB team in here. I think the Titans are going to end up the only sports team in Nashville in 3 years. The Sounds are on life support as we speak.

Other than cities desperate for any team, i.e. Vegas and OKC, there aren't any cities that don't already have an NBA team that would support one.

What has happened to Jerry West?? Please enlighten me because I though he was the brains in LA.

Jerry West is evil, along with Hubie Brown for leaving this franchise with Mike Fratello for two seasons (especially Jerry West).

The 22 win season would have never happened had they hired a competent coach before last season.

Actually, with all the Michigan transplants in Wlliamson County, I'd much rather try to sell hockey than hoops in Ashville.

Is the reason that Vegas doesn't have one now the fear for the women of Vegas?? I mean think of what Wilt could have accomplished there.
