There isn't a coach in NBA history that would have coached that roster to more than 35 wins.

35 wins is fine with me, considering the circumstances.

Fratello, coupled with Pau being injured and a big baby killed the team.

No commissioner wants to be the first to put a team in Vegas because of the gambling element. However, as soon as one does, others will follow.

Actually, with all the Michigan transplants in Wlliamson County, I'd much rather try to sell hockey than hoops in Ashville.

Trying to sell Preds hockey to people from Michigan is like trying to sell condoms to nuns. The Red Wings are a religion to these people.

Yeah Sports 56 WHBQ (am560) in Memphis is the best one to listen to. Jeff Weinberger in the afternoon usually talks some about the Vols and a little about the piggies and Tiger High(the nickname we ASU fans have for Memphis..*evil*). The Southern Sports Report followed by the Sports Bar are the best two shows they have. The big 3 they cover are Ole Miss, The Vols and Tiger High.

Every fan from another school that feels the need to degrade Memphis (a lot of them) call it Tiger High.

. . . I can't count how many times I've been to a bar here in Memphis to witness a large mass of people rooting (passionately) for whoever UT is playing in whatever sport. I mean, there's just no way 30 LSU fans are gathered in a bar in Memphis during the SEC BBall tourney.

I told this story in another thread a few weeks ago but I think it bears repeating. I had a boss here in Memphis about 20 years ago. He played basketball for U.M. and had an NIT ring. He hated everything to do with U.T. I used to try to pull for the Tigers (when they weren't playing U.T.) but was always bothered by how rarely they reciprocated. Then one day this boss said he would laugh if the U.T. team plane crashed. That was about 20 years ago, and I stopped trying to like the Tigers on that day.

WOAI out of San Antonio has the best coverage of any AM station Ive listened to. I live in NE Arkansas and pick it up clearly most of the time.

Your 50,000 watt AM staions have a heck of a coverage area.

You know, it's not just the transmitter power. WLAC and other clear channel stations get exclusive use to a frequency in a certain region, and the absence of interference makes a big difference. ("Clear channel" in this context refers to frequency allocation and not the media company by that name.)

When I first got my ham license I used to use my short wave transceiver (which also covered medium wave) along with my antenna array and just see how many of these stations I could log. Some people make a hobby out of that alone.

Sports 56 is absolutely horrible. It is like nails on a chalkboard now. The only decent show on 560 is Geoff & George (and I am not a big fan of George). Midday with Greg & Eli is ok too. Southern Sports Report with Rainey and the Sports Bar is horrendous.

The Chris Vernon Show is the only local show worth listening to. Hands down the best that Memphis sports radio has to offer.

Memphis is jealous because they're aware how much their city sucks......it has nothing to do with sports.....I've spent a lot of time there & it's a nasty city....

Memphis is no nastier than Knoxville.

It's just bigger and has more crime.

ummmmm yeah, it is.........comparing Memphis & Knoxville is like comparing Detroit & Mayberry.......

I'm not saying Knoxville is a crime free city or totally beautiful....but in comparison it's Shangra La.......

Tell that to the 25+ homeless people I drove by today (all in a row), or the homeless people I see digging around the dumpsters for my apartment complex.

There are homeless people in every city....I see them on my way to work in lil' ole' Lebanon, TN (that's Lebnun for you non-natives)....I just don't think you can compare nasty *** Memphis to Knoxville and be serious about it. I'd take my chances walking in Knoxville WAY before I'd walk around Memphis....well maybe Germantown but as a whole it's a dangerous dump at best....and yes, I'm aware there are bad sections of Knoxville, I too lived there......

We're just gonna have to agree to disagree on this one.......Go Vols!

My roommate carries a knife on him all the time while walking in the ****. We all definitely feel completely safe here.

He should move if indeed it's gotten so bad in the f o r t (ha!) you have to carry weapons just to walk around. I lived there for 4 years in the 90's and walked around forted up, lol and never felt scared. That is actually sad to hear. Someone should take out the trash so to speak....

I would definitely say that Knoxville >>> Memphis. Knox is ten times more safe. Also, we're right down the road from the Smoky Mountains, and Memphis is right down the road from......Arkansas.

I start very few threads. I don't reply to a heck of a lot. I firmly believe this place would be a lot more informative if some people valued quality over quantity. Perhaps not as entertaining, however.

That being said, I'm intrigued that my rather innocent question about sports talk radio in Memphis has degenerated into cross-state city bashing.

Guess that's the nature of the beast on these boards.

Who else remembers Usenet?
