Meyer stepping down

Not a chance. He'll be making ~$4mil/year and will owe Oregon money -- anywhere between $2mil and $4mil depending on when -- if he leaves early, and that's with no out clauses.

Kelly is going to be in Eugene for a while.

his salary is going to be $2.4 mil. not sure where you got the $4 mil number

So you know for a fact they wouldn't have converted short yardage plays without him?

You should be a fortune teller.

Man, I'm usually on the side of if you don't know for sure, you don't know. For instance, I surely don't know we could've beaten Florida if they hadn't had him.

But if you contend that any other QB in the SEC last year would have picked up that first down when Tebow broke 2-3 tackles in the backfield after he was surrounded, you must've been down at the fortune teller's when the game was being played, and missed it. Think it only required eyes and a TV to be pretty confident of that Tebow was critical for that one in particular.

The other guy wasn't particularly far out on a limb by saying Tebow was good (and maybe the best) on 3rd or 4th and 3, imo.

Actually Kelly will be in Orlando later in the week for some kind of award.

From the sounds of it, Meyer is retiring from work. Period. He must have gobs of dough, doesn't need it. Going to relax and watch his kids grow up. Hey, you can't begrudge him that.

As for a replacement, I have got to hope he would not take this step without having given UF a chance to lay some groundwork. Gruden? Leach? Mullen?

Do not think he is ever going to coach college football.

PLEASE let this happen.

All i can read here is: I cannot win without Tebow...

I agree, but if we're wrong; I appluad him for stepping down to spend time he can never get back with his kids. I don't like Meyer as a coach, but if he's being honest about his reasoning, I am impressed with him as a father. Greed will often win out in that situation for many high profile persons.

He'll never leave Tampa...

CUM will end up working for ESPN for a year or two as a guest analyst.
Idk if Mullen would leave MSU for the job or not. He has a fanbase that loves him and knows there would be a firedanmullen.com after he lost his first game at UF.

Whoops, I meant up to. He gets more money every year, up to $4mil by 2015 or 2016 IIRC.

Either way, he'll be out 4 million if he takes the Florida job. UofO absolutely locked him up.

we win that game and we play in the SECCG against Arkansas. Even if we lose, no way do we fire Fulmer in 08 after taking us to back to back SECCG. Obviously, no way to know for sure.

It might have bought him an extra year, but judging by the beating Arky put on them that year, it's likely UT would have simply been embarrassed in the SEC title game.

yeah i had heard mullen left florida on a sour note, also i thought miss st. was close to a long deal with mullen

Hmmm... What a tough decision.

He could stay at Miss. State and recruit in Mississippi, with a minimal recruiting & financial budget, second rate facilities and play in the trailer park with a big screen....

or

Go back to UF and have top of the line in almost everything, players already know his system, and have the easiest recruiting job in the country.

He probable will ink that long term with State now that I have weighed the pros and cons.

You would be happy with this?

Says who?

Todd McShay?

Mel Kiper?

Nobody in the NFL wants to invest 5-10 million a year on injured QBs. That's why. And in the NFL they will get injured running in the open field. It is much more brutal than college. This is a good discussion but I have to go for now.

Doubtful. We would have had Ainge, not Crompton, back playing against them. If you remember that game, Crompton was awful and our defense was on the field wayyyyyyy too long to try and stop McFadden and Jones. With Ainge in it would have a completely different ballgame - evidenced by the 2007 game.

Unless some other school offers him more. Chip Kelley can get whatever he wants from Oregon provided he has leverage from other offers.

I hope you guys hire Leach...I could see that pirate lover recruiting elite athletes....

Gruden? Everyone brings up Gruden and it is just absurd, if Gruden wanted to be a head coach in the NFL, he could be right now. He is an NFL coach. Period.

Not sure how much groundwork UF needs to lay to get Mullen, you offer and he accepts, simple as that. Mississippi State is a dump and Florida is an elite program.
