Miami vs Florida

Miami has good athletes and they had an excellent game plan. I think Florida was very fortunate to win the game.

Against UT, and without the benefit of seeing how your team responds in the UAB game, I think Florida will be favored by about 8-10, and rightly so.

But 10 point favorites lose all the time.

As to the other discussion we are having here, let me add this. In professional football, with their playoff system, winning is the only thing. In college football, with the beauty contest that sometimes develops to pick those top two teams, winning isn't the only thing. Winning by a good margin is the only thing.
Explaining why USC leap-frogged UGA last week in the polls.Correct?

Plus UCLA beat virginia on the road worse than Georgia beat GA Southern at home.

Yeah, those kids in Miami will decide to finally pull the trigger on going to Miami rather than Florida because Florida scored a field goal at the end of the game in 2008 and it was a slap in the face of Miamians.

Where is that roll eyes icon, please?

So the field goal isn't a huge deal, but it is because the Gators just HAD TO COVER THE SPREAD TO MEET THEIR EXPECTATIONS.

And it's not really that the Haters scored a field goal. With their field position, that wasn't really unexpected. It's that they were obviously still trying to score a touchdown with all their starters still in it, as though it would make that much of a difference.

Well, I am very surprised to read this, but the Miami coach is actually being a real punk about this late field goal. I just cannot understand the whining. But oh well, looks like you guys were right and that some pansies down there in Miami are taking offense at it. Unbelievable.

I didn't think it was that bad...not nearly as bad as the TN game last year when they were still throwing deep with a 30point lead

Didn't offend me. I wish Tennessee would do more of this. Hell who am I kidding? I just wish Tennessee would be in the POSITION of doing more of this!

A bunch of people in this thread remarked that they thought Miami coaches and players (and recruits) were pissed about it and I said that's nonsense. Guess I was wrong, though to me it seems ridiculously petty on their part.

Whatever. They'll live.

It was a classless act by a punk. He's your coach so I don't expect you to see it that way.

Kicking that field goal was meaningless save two reasons: 1. cover the vegas spread, 2. disrespect the other team.

Urban Meyer is a jackhole. You're up by 20 with just over a minute left, you leave your starters in and throwing for a TD. That is just a cold move among coaches. Randy Shannon was pissed and rightfully so. He just gave Meyer a quick handshake and left the field.

Meyer and UF should watch out. What I saw in that game makes me think that UM could beat UF if they played next year or in 2010 and that game certainly helped UM in recruiting against UF. I wonder if the a-hole move by Meyer might have some recruiting repercussions against Miami? UM actually managed to come off as the classier team for once.

My point was that Florida was supposed to win by 21 and they did what they were supposed to do, plus gave their field goal kicker some real time game experience.

Does it make you feel better about your own coach to call other coaches names just for winning and doing their jobs?

I mean seriously.

Well said LG......Our kicker hadn't kicked but one field goal and being off next week, he needed it. Hell we were trying for the TD. Lame excuses from opposing fans. Any other coach would have done the same thing.

your kicker got game experience by kicking a meaningless FG in a game already decided? That's sensible.

I guess beating Vandy 65-0 or whatever about 10 years ago wasn't rubbing it in or running it up either. Kids want to play not sit on the football, regardless of position. Miami could have blocked it or at least tried. Kickers need game sitiuations to be ready....I guess you already know that by now.

I don't at all disagree with playing football to win or hammer someone during the 60 minutes allotted for the game. I'm with Spurrier on that one.

Regardless, I do find your support for LGs ridiculous 'the kicker got some game experience' comment absolutely hilarious. Your kicker got absolutely nothing but some meaningless points.

That was his first kick of the season. He kicked all extra points in the Hawaii game.

Dude. You're a Gator fan. You're arrogant. Of course you don't think it was the least bit wrong. You're just like the rest of them. I laid back and watched this thread play out and there are only 2 people in this thread that agree it was not running up the score. 2 Gator fans. Shocker.

His kicks in practice mean more than that one with 48 seconds left. Face it, there is no good reason to attempt that kick.

In the scheme of things I suppose I don't care if there is a huge reason for it or not.

Miami should grow a set and move on. I had a bunch of respect for their new coach, now I'm not so sure. UM coaches of old would have said simply that they were going to kick their players' butts to get them ready to win those games next time. Cannot believe they are feeling sorry for themselves over this.

When you are vying for a shot at the national championship you want to meet people's expectations.

I could easily say something here about UT, but will leave it at that.

Trust me, you guys won't be playing for a NC. The team I saw on Saturday is not going to the BCSC. You guys are way too weak up front on both sides of the ball.

I'm with you, but I'd have more respect for you had your first response not been some gibberish about live game practice for your kicker.

Oh, I still think that matters. But my attention has shifted away from defending it to not comprehending why its such a big deal. We kicked a field goal in a 20 point game when teams routinely continue to try to score with 30 and 40 point leads well into the fourth quarter. I'm just truly astounded by this nonsense.

I mean, the chink in our armor is that we scored when we didn't need to? Crikes.

but I'm for the Spurrier response. It's the opposition's job to keep us from scoring, not mine.

Agree 100% lawgator. Last time I checked, this was a 60 minute game that they play. From the opening kick off to the last whistle you play and you play your hardest! If you don't want a team to score, stop them. I'm sick and tired of the belly achers who whine about running points up. It's not the opposing team's obligation to let up on the gas. It's your responsibility to stop them. If you can't, then you are the reason for your team's disrespect.
