Michael Dyer - now Louisville bound (merged)

What's your opinion of the possibility that Dyer is a Vol?

On tony's blog today vol colonel dude says dyer is being pursued by TN
not sure if he is credible

Do we really need him? Is he that much of an improvement over Lane and Neal? He's a talented player, but the baggage he brings might not be worth it, IMO. Lane has some potential to be an explosive player, he showed some flashes of that last year. With another off season of training, I think he could improve his speed and explosiveness even more and be a legit RB in the SEC. Neal sometimes get the Tauren Poole disease and tries to cut to the outside too much, but he had some good games for us last year. Dyer would be another talented addition, but I don't think our RB situation is in that bad of need. Focus on getting a couple of good HS Rb's to add depth for the future.

If they did, then wouldn't it be more to shore up depth. Afterall, what kind of shape is he in? Lot's of baggage. I think it does more harm to the culture than helps the score board.

If Jones and Graham determine that he likely wouldn't be a head-case and a locker room disruption, what would be the harm? At worst he messes up once and we show him the door - and after 3 straight losing seasons, no one would notice.

But at best, he sees his NFL potential and plays to it, and we get good production from a proven 5* RB.

Again, Michael Dyer to Tennessee = Rumor .

I personally would like. Dont see any downside as no one will point to TN or butch if he fails, but if he turns it around and balls out not only will it look great for us and Butch, but it will give us a proven 5* SEC rb

There is potentially a MONSTROUS downside. I'm hoping somebody who's paid to do such things does a bit of the legwork and analysis, but from what I've read on our current APR situation it appears that we are very likely unable to risk having any more players getting kicked off the team. I know he's a big time back and there's a load of potential upside, but is Dyer worth potentially losing multiple scholarships? Or a 2 year bowl ban? Given our APR situation, giving him a chance but then having to "show him the door" could result in those types of sanctions.

It appears that we've got quite a bit of work cut out for us over the next few years regardless of whether or not we take on Michael Dyer. Unless we're in really good shape on the APR for 2012-2013 academic year, I can't see us taking the risk on him. Bear in mind we've lost Deion Bonner, Trent Taylor, Quenshaun Watson, Justin Hunter, Daricky Rogers, Tyler Bray, Omari (Dante) Phillips, Davante Bourque and potentially others. All of those will impact our APR in a negative way.

Didn't think about that and i think we're sitting at 931 with 930 being the cut off before sanctions and no bowls

I never even thought about Crowell dang think about isiah Crowell and dyer in the backfield that tandem would be nasty plus what we already have we're talking alabuba depth

Eh, doubt we go after both. Don't need more than one reclamation project on the team. Like another poster said, you got guys like Neal and Lane who have done things the right way. Don't want to create the image that character doesn't count for anything.

Personally, I would rather take a shot on Crowell. Think he has 3 to play 2. Where Dyer is 2 to play 2. That being said, the main issue is which one is ready to put the nonsense behind them and focus on building a future.

That isn't just for one year, it's an average of 4. We are nowhere close to averaging below 930

Yeah i know but thinking back at all the kids that either left, went early, went to jail, etc it's got to be close. At the end of this year UT is 107 out of 119 sitting at 931

starting next year the average over 2 years has to be over 940 points, 930 for 4 years. One guy getting kicked off costs as much as 12 points (if he's failing), so I think it has to be considered.

to get us over 940 points 2-yr average going into the '13 season, we have to finish with at least 949 this year.

also, there's currently a provision that if you have 925 points or fewer, and an athlete is booted from the team with a failing grade (yeah, that's a very real risk with Dyer), then it could kick in an automatic ad instant scholarship reduction of up to 10%.

Neal and Lane have played 2 yrs and Dyer was still better than them as a freshman.IF he has straightened his act up and matured from what I've read,it's a no brainer IMO.I'm sure Jones will do his due dilligence. If he thinks it will work out, give the kid a chance!Nobody's perfect and everybody deserves a 2nd chance, hell even a 3rd chance. He definatly would be a upgrade!Has he learned his lesson? That's the only question.

Coaches feel good about RBs they have on board and just signed in Lee.

Chemistry is important to the coaches.

Dyer isn't a fit and won't be part of the Vols roster come Fall.
