The way I see it: Things are looking good for UT football in the next few years. We're building recruiting classes that are top-notch character wise and academic wise. We're getting kids that are in love with the school. I don't see too much attrition in our future, nor APR hits.
That being said, I think that if you can get Dyer, you take him. The guy undoubtedly has to know this is his last chance. He would be on a very short leash. He's proven he can play in the SEC, and he performed well on a championship team. He would probably love the chance to get to play Auburn this year, as a shot at redemption.
I think you take him if you can get him. We need help. Lane and Neal are solid backs, but they did not prove last year that they can get what we need them to get. Plus, if one gets hurt, unless Alden Hill has a breakout year (which he very well may), you're in trouble.
Butch likes to run the ball. Next year, he'll have better depth, but this year, he doesn't have nearly what he'd like to have. I could see this happening. The smoke is certainly picking up, and Ron is right, you have to read between the lines with Hubbs. He won't say something if there's a possibility of him being wrong. He's very conservative with his statements, which is why he's one of the best.
When he says, "I have no evidence that..." That's interesting. It's like me saying, "I have no evidence that my wife is cheating on me...." but I can have suspicion or a feeling. Don't know. High quality RB out there, we missed on some big ones, we're looking for immediate success. I can see it happening. I want it to happen. But I'm also confident that Neal and Lane can do good things, but Dyer can be the difference between a average season and a good one.
