1. Who really gives a damn about an introductory presser? It won't determine how good of a coach we just hired.

2. No candidate that is available will be able to unite the entire fanbase in the first day. Even if we hired Marshall, there would still be people skeptical about the hire. The fanbase will unite once the team starts winning.

Agreed. If we have a coach that's so successful that Duke hires him away from us, then this program will be at a point where it should basically have its pick of new coaches.

Like I said last night in this thread... My gut tells me he will be introduced as our next head basketball coach tomorrow.

I don't have any inside info or anything. I just base this on what little info we've heard and what I know about how Dave Hart operates when hiring coaches.

I will be very happy with this hire. My hope is our signed recruits will be too!

I have felt good about possible news Monday for a few days now myself. Hopefully we are about to turn the page to better days for the basketball program.

Bruce Pearl looked at UT as a destination job and loved it here. He would have stayed 15+ years. Too bad that didn't work out.

I still wish we were offering $3 mil to Smart or Marshall, but I had reasonable expectations based on Hart's bargain-bin tendencies and I think White is going to be a home run hire. He has a short but absolutely outstanding track record, is a great ambassador for his program, and has shown he can recruit. He also employs a fast-paced style of play that has produced dramatic turnarounds in the past and will put butts in the seats - not to mention the fact that it's just plain fun to watch.

The sky is the limit for this guy. I'm excited.

We probably were not going to get Smart or Marshall without lots of $$$ and maybe they were not interested even then. So given what is left I like White.

A guy like White is going to need 3 recruiting classes just to get the talent back up to be competitive. There will not be any McD's All Americans walking through the doors of TBA to staunch the bleeding over the next couple of seasons. By the time this guy is in the position to be successful here, most of the fans will be tuned out and there will probably be another petition circulating. It'll only get worse if Pearl has some instant success at AU. Everyone better pray that Butch Jones can take us to a bowl in 2014 despite the young roster and tough schedule. Otherwise, were about to enter a whole new phase of nuclear winter.

The sky is falling!

Pearl had immediate success with way less talent than we are going to have next year. Quit panicking - we have Richardson, Hubbs, Thompson, and Moore coming back next year. With the right coach that is more than enough to be competitive and make the tournament in a very weak SEC.

Maybe a high energy White comes in much the same way Butch did and just KILLS it in recruiting. How many big time kids did Butch sign at cincy? He walks in the door and puts that T on his chest and everything changes. Tennessee is a brand. UT is nationwide. If the coach is willing to put in the work to promote UT, the kids will come. I don't think it takes 3 years. Tennessee will be working for White from day 1.

If I were White coming in to this situation I would ask for a five year deal. I hope that Vol fans can give him some support. That's if he takes the job.

The general consensus from Tennessee fans who know about White is that they're very much so behind him. Those that haven't researched him yet are skeptical. Google's your friend.

I know I'm opening myself up with this, but it won't be the first time I posted it. Anyone not named Dooley was going to have a top 10 class at UTK this year because of legacies and highly rated in-state kids who were not going anywhere else. If Jones can recruit at that level 2-3 seasons in a row I will believe that it was him. For now, I'm withholding judgment. Back to basktball. :hi:

I hope we hire a coach that every school in America wants in four years. Then we accelerate his pay appropriately until few can match it. I want Duke to want our coach in four years. I want Ky to want our coach in four years.

BTW, just remembering when Memphis and Ky both expressed interest in Bruce Pearl. And he stayed.

Funny how things work. Last Monday, Terry Bradshaw was glad Mike White was around at least 1 more yr. Then UT job opens & fate is unknown

I would guess the same ones yelling "spend more $$, it does not matter who on, just spend more, the coach would be better" are the same ones who knew Gruden was coming.

I tend to follow football recruiting a bit and I think at last check Butch had our Vols ranked around 5th this year and it looks like we might be passing on some legacies as there are better options in 2015. I do think Butch has to get to a bowl game this year to sustain it going into 2016's class. I'm confident we are on our way.

I'd also point out that 10 of the 18 4* or higher commits from the 2014 class were either not from TN, not a legacy, and or were committed elsewhere at some point last year. Butch is pulling some top talent by putting in the work.
