Dooley was a failure at La Tech, 17-20 record in 3 years, including a 4th place WAC finish his 1st year and a 5th place finish his third and last. Hamilton hired a FOOTBALL coach with a losing record.

White took over a team with a losing record 3 years ago and has gone 18-16, 27-7, 29-8....and has finished 1st in the conf the last 2 years. Hart would be hiring a BASKETBALL coach with a winning record.

IN a watching some video of his La Tech team from this past season, I saw some things that concern me. His team was not very disciplined on offense and they impatiently threw up a lot of threes. If he is going to be our next coach and have success, he will have to get his team much more disciplined than his La Tech teams.

So according to logic on here, if Illinois was needing a new basketball coach they shouldn't hire Billy Donovan because they got Ron zook from Florida to coach football and that didn't work out.

I watched his team play in the NIT, but as a coach myself, I try to enjoy the time I get to watch the game as a fan without the stress of preparation on my mind. I wasn't watching with purpose, but like everyone else I noticed the tempo and pressure his team applied. Since Martin left, I wanted to find some of White's games to look at intently, and see if I was still as impressed as I was at first glance. I finally had an opportunity last night, and I can say that schematically, Michael White is a very sound basketball coach. They do good things offensively, and guard you 94 feet from the tip defensively. I certainly can't do anything but guess whether or not White has the many other intangibles that characterize a good head coach, (If X's and O's and a pure knowledge of the game were the only difference in wins/losses; Kevin O'Neill would've won 30 games a year) but I can say that White's teams appeared to play with attention to detail, consistent effort, and in a style that will excite the majority of the fanbase.

the last thing this current UT team needs is another coach that will robot them to death and take away their rhythm and instinct.
I'll take some impatient 3's all day vs multiple turnovers standing 35 feet away from the basket or 10 second calls because we are walking around.

He runs a 2-2-1 full court press and encourages shooting threes, which is much better than encouraging midrange jumpers.

From an analytical standpoint, threes/close range layups/jumpers/etc are much more effective than the midrange jumper. Doesn't take analytics of any kind to figure that out, but yeah.

I do hope White does not read the Scout LaTech site. He could be Tennessee's new BB coach and would not even know it. Last post there in their "premium content" section was a week ago. :eek:lol:

If you have to give a Basketball Coach, 3 years to turn the talent back up to be competitive, then you don't need that Coach.

BB is so much different than football. 8-9 players can make the team Soild versus Football requires 30 to 44 players.

Any Coach needs to recruit to his system. That takes time but in basketball you don't have the culture change that one needs for football.

Anyone that keeps up with basketball doesn't have to google his name is the thing. Sorry you don't and are a common fan of basketball. But if you would have watched other teams this year besides UT like I have you would have known that La Tech was one of the most impressive mid majors this year. White was left with nothing when he got there and he turned things around got them ranked and 25+ wins. Most of our fans had to google Pearl's name when we hired him. Even after his sweet 16 run the common fans didn't know he was. White will excite the fan base within the first 10 games I can almost guarantee that. The guy is a star in the making and his brand of ball is super exciting.

I'll admit I follow the college football side as a whole more than the basketball side. If it's not UT basketball, me and basketball are like mehh. When I knew Zo was out and Hart would be looking, I searched "best young college basketball coaches". That is when I came up with Michael White several days ago. Yup, that was about as technical as it got. :)

the 2 5 stars we signed weren't legacies... they had to be convinced...along with 11 other 4 stars that weren't legacies or in state... so how did Butch exactly fall into that?
