Michigan vacancy could force Hamilton to act sooner

The best way for Fulmer to leave is "by choice". If he finds he can't be successful... which a mediocre season this year might show him... it is possible. The possibility is enhanced if people close to the program help him see it.

It is very, very unlikely that CPF gets fired. The guy has lived UT football his whole life... it would be completely classless to make it ugly. Anyone who would take over a job like that wouldn't be the kind of guy UT will need.

OTOH, I still think he's made some good changes that should pay dividends. Unfortunately, they had a very stupid defensive gameplan against Cal.

I don't think that Fulmer thinks 9 win seasons are good enough... that's why I think he might hang it up if he's convinced someone else would be better for the program.

I am sick of Fulmer, especially after the Cal game, but calling for his head and hiring a new coach terrifies me. True, right now we are a has-been team, but what if we completely disappear from college football, and become what Bama was the last 5 years, or turn into Nebraska? He'll probably get fired eventually because Fulmer doesn't want to retire untill he wins a national championship, which isn't going to happen while he is around. Why? Because Fulmer can't adjust or coach new tricks. It was obvious for one with our special teams, and also that horrible wildcat formation with Lucas Taylor. I don't think that Fulmer ever lost it, I just don't think he'll ever get the same talent we had in 2001 or the 90's, and I don't think he's a good enough coach to adjust and develop average talent.

First Michigan will not fire Carr. That is not the Michigan way. Carr will be there until he wants to go. If he does have a bad season he may even be convinced to stay to salvage his legacy. Fulmer will not be fired. Face it and live with it. As much as anyone may want him to go it won't happen until he is ready to go. He wont lose enough to cause it to happen.

The sweater would look good in Orange.

At least we would never complain about the defense.

How can you argue with his success?

So no, I am not kidding.

:eek:k:
He was an upgrade to John Cooper (which ain't saying much)... another coach that under achieved with a boatload of talent. Had it not been for 1998, Fulmer would have been known as the John Cooper of the 1990's...

Well to bad for you 1998 DID happen.

It just don't matter. You ask the same questions a million times and the answers will always be the same. He's not going anywhere until he wants to. Its really that simple.

As far as John Pennington goes, until he straps on a helmet and actually plays the game his opinion means squat. He should stick to the song lyrics and leave the football to the folks that actually know a thing or two about the game. He just rehashes the info he gets from his media buds and puts his own spin on it.

Whoa, some John Pennington agression. Easy, big daddy.

Seriously, I just pulled out a little quote from his article, which actually had no spin and was straight facts about the last 25 games the Vols have played.

We played them 2 years before that and all they complained about was the length of the cleats.

Believe me, I bring that game up a lot up here.

Yes, that is all I ever hear, nothing about the fullback carrying the ball over Eddie George.

:good!:

I don't buy this, he'll be there until he wants to. The man can be fired without being fired (See Randy Sanders resigns cirra 2005).

Hamilton runs this athletic program like a business and not like the good ole' boy breakfast down at Hardee's, where they bring their own tomatoes for the Gravy n' Biscuits. For that, I am glad.

I'm sure there's different kinds of financial packages in place if he's fired and if he resigns. Anyone know them?

WTF? Fulmer is not going any where until he decides to. Every one should just get used to it, that's just the way it is.

i would love to second that.. and the person that wrote this thread is an idiot. Who would say something like that after one game... good job buddy:good!:

It would take a season that UT will not have under this coach to get him to be forced to retire. That is reality. My question is how many of you would accept a horrible season in order to get a new coach.

I actually thought it was a very well thought out hypothetical question, but you know round these parts coming up with a good topic to debate and questioning something is sinister compared to just saying "GO VOLS!!!!"

How many mediocre 9-3/8-4ish seasons would many of you accept to keep the coach we have now?
