People are here to discuss anything Vols, agree or disagree but there are no idiots on here.

How many mediocre 9-3/8-4ish seasons would many of you accept to keep the coach we have now?

I think you just pegged the worse this season would be and that is my point. UT will not lose enough to get him fired. So the wishers of ill can just keep on wishing. CPF will be at UT until he is ready to go. Like it or not.

So that is 8 wins over the next 13 years.....left me take off my shoes.....

Add 104 wins to his career total......an amazing coach!

You didn't answer the question. How many more 8-9 win seasons will it take for you to want change?

I am sick of Fulmer, especially after the Cal game, but calling for his head and hiring a new coach terrifies me. True, right now we are a has-been team, but what if we completely disappear from college football, and become what Bama was the last 5 years, or turn into Nebraska? He'll probably get fired eventually because Fulmer doesn't want to retire untill he wins a national championship, which isn't going to happen while he is around. Why? Because Fulmer can't adjust or coach new tricks. It was obvious for one with our special teams, and also that horrible wildcat formation with Lucas Taylor. I don't think that Fulmer ever lost it, I just don't think he'll ever get the same talent we had in 2001 or the 90's, and I don't think he's a good enough coach to adjust and develop average talent.

The water that some propose we enter is cold and deep and full of sharks. I don't think Bama is out of the water at this point and Saban has a three year tenure at best. UGA has made a great hire with Richt but I wonder what he does if BB leaves FSU. We could swim around for a long time before we even return to our starting point.

The Fulmer isle is cozy to the degree that we usually have some good recruits to follow, low probability of NCAA sanctions, a positive program that helps the players in life after football. Even in his nadir, you can see a bunch of positives associated with CPF.

That being said, I am getting more than tired of the same old same old and the past weekend has done more to get me thinking about testing the water.

I just hope that everyone continues to pull for the Vols during the season no matter who is at the helm. The team deserves our support.

Well, with that being said (which I agree with), would you like it or not?

1.) I'll have to reserve judgement till after this season is over.

2.) .............5-6?????????? :birgits_giggle:

:birgits_giggle::birgits_giggle::birgits_giggle::birgits_giggle::birgits_giggle: i guess one bad season out of what? 15? is just terrible. and il agree IF this is a BAD season then the possibility of fulmer being gone will definately be there.. but i just love how you internet message board junkies love to act like you know how to run a D-1 college football program

Do you really not expect people to second guess a coach that punts the ball away with less than 2 minutes to go and down by 14?

Yeah... because losing 52-31 instead of 45-31 and going down without a fight helps to boost our "style points"...
in my opinion.... and that doesn't mean much... but the difference between 45 and 52 is psychologically different than just 7 more points... comon i know others can agree with that

When Bill Battle was under the gun, the wail and cry was to bring Johnny home. Roll forward and it was put Johnny out to pasture and bring in Phil. The thing that gets me on this proposed coaching change is there is only the get rid of part of the equation and no consensus on a viable alternative.

What kind of message do you send the players "psychologically" when you fold up your tents when there is still a chance to make one last play and try to put one more score on the board with the remaining minute and a half left?

The same message you would send by putting Coleman or Crompton in front of Ainge for no reason, something you have proposed doing.

no i have no clue... but then again i dont try to act like i do... and atleast i know i do NOT

I don't think anyone is claiming they know how to run a D-1 Football program. Where have you seen that?

I think your confusing that with a bunch of people understanding that there is a boat load of coaches out there that can lead us to a 8-4 season (for cheaper than 2 million a year, may I add) and also understanding that Phil's best days are about 8 years behind him, well at least that's their opinion.

Message boards are full of opinion, man, that's what there here for. Did you come here to just say "Go Vols" "I bleed Orange" a thousand times or to get into intellectual debates with other Vol fans?

If we lose to Georgia, Florida and Cal, there is no reason to not give Crompton and/or Coleman snaps in mid October to get them ready for next season. A loss to both Florida and Georgia puts us two behind the loss column and we are forced to scoreboard watch and hope/pray UGA and UF each lose 3 SEC games.

UGA/UF losing 3 games is out of our control at that point. Taking a shot downfield on 4th down in the very first game of the year (when you need to set a tone and try to build momentum) is well within our control.

Have you ever played a team sport or did you spend all your time in the engineering building?

And BTW... I wouldn't just stop at the QB position. I would start removing players that aren't producing and try to get some of these younger guys some reps and send a message to the underclassmen... if you don't produce, we'll find somebody who will. Seniority doesn't count for squat. Spurrier has already made that point this week about rotating in players, and Meyer has consistently said that he is going to play the best eleven, no matter if their freshmen or walk-on seniors.

That is the message you would be sending... Nobody's job is safe. Not the QB. Not the seniory safety. Not the senior DT.

And not even the coach...

TVA you did not answer the question.

When a QB is playing well, why replace him? Demoralize the whole team by taking out the leader on offense? That makes sense.

Berry (true freshman) replaced a senior safety. When Ben Martin is healthy, say goodbye to Antonio Reynolds. Gerald Jones, once his hamstring is healthy, will be getting a lot of PT (if they don't try to get a medical RS on him). They are doing what you're saying they should do.

And the coach you constantly belittle will be here as long as he wants to be here
