Mike Matthews to portal? [He’s staying]

OSU was a measuring stick, and we were completely outclassed on both sides of the ball.

We need playmakers, and we have zero at WR. If it takes losing 6 to get 1 legitimate playmaking WR then Heupel is doing the right thing by blowing up that room and letting everyone walk. His scheme has been neutralized by the shell defenses they’re playing now, so you have to win one on one which the majority of our guys can’t do consistently.

The bigger issue is talent evaluation at the OL and WR spots isn’t good enough. Whatever the program is doing evaluating kids at those two positions needs to be addressed. Then you can flip the coaches.

Time will tell if the gamble pays off.

It was the right thing to do. It's the NCAAs fault it came to litigation that neutered them for it to happen. If they would have just been reasonable all these anti trust suits that they keep getting wouldn't have never happened.

Giving players a piece of the pie legally instead of under the table like before was probably the right decision. But the adults in the room refused to put some guidelines and guardrails around it to give it structure and uniformity. The only solution moving forward is for congress to step in. Outside of that, it will take a massive dip in fan interest like what the NBA is experiencing for college football to collectively make the changes needed. Again, ITS ALL ABOUT MONEY. The entire sport - if fan intrest starts to decline, so do the dollars. Then you will see change

The problem is the offense. It’s totally different than the one in 2022. There is no creativity to it now. If these guys were getting more touches and scoring more touchdowns I think they would be happier. Yes money is a factor but the vanilla offense is too.

Go back and see the play on our 1st possession of the 3rd qtr, down 21-10, we had the ball on our 30 yard line, watch the 2 WR's on the left and the fartherest one could've been a TD or at least a very long gain, if he hit him.
I saw safety help over the top and an easy Int if it’s thrown

Yeah this is just wrong. Paying them isn't and will never be the issue and it's always been the right thing to do. The issue is it took litigation and dragging the NCAA kicking and screaming into doing it and that litigation completely neutered their ability to regulate without a literal act of Congress to give them an anti-trust exemption. If they were humble from the beginning and didn't abuse their power they could have limited how the portal works and regulated how things like NIL collectives work. They can't now and Congress won't do jack like they always do.

Because it's not a talent issue. It's a coaching issue. Pope should be the one being told don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.
It’s a talent issue..those leaving aren’t starters in any SEC team not named Vanderbilt. Matthew’s being the exception and his 7 catches for 90 yards is up for debate.

Webb ended up at Wake Forest and Maryland for a reason.

Our talent evaluation is fine. It's the talent development that's bad and that's the coaching

It's a coaching issue. Thornton and brazzel were both sought after in the portal and disappeared once coming here.

Don’t mind kids making money, but I’ll say what no one else is. When the NCAA wasn’t proactive ahead of the California Supreme Court ruling that permitted these athletes to be compensated, instead of trying to structure a xfer portal and guidelines for NIL, they largely went hands off and the “collectives” filled the vacuum it created. That’s what we’re seeing now. I have no idea how you get guardrails on it now. Good for us that Congress may step in here and really muddy the waters. Yea us!

This **** show does t change the fact that they should still be financially compensated properly for their NIL and talent:

It's a coaching issue. Thornton and brazzel were both sought after in the portal and disappeared once coming here.
Thornton didn’t disappear, I saw many passes he dropped and an injury that hampered him. Also saw him run like a gazelle from time to time. Brazzel coming in from Tulane isn’t a coaching issue he was at Tulane for a reason. The old saying as a coach, I make the lineup out…it’s your job to make sure you’re in it

If paying them isn’t the issue then players wouldn’t use another teams offer as a tool/threat.
That's such a first order thinking way to look at it.

If the NCAA weren't feckless idiots that had to be humbled in court over and over again in anti-trust lawsuits because they continuously refused to just let players make money off themselves and have a damn part time job, we wouldn't be having any of these discussions. The NCAA would have allowed them to make money off their NIL but could have said no collectives for example. But their hubris lead to this.

Maybe MM is stupid and doesn't know the routes or refuses to block. There are reasons he could not get on the field, we just are not privileged to them because we are not in the builing

That safety isn't getting there for a int if he makes the throw as soon as the CB released him at the 39. That's an easy big time gain or, how about the slot guy for the 1st down there, that's a very easy throw... 🤷‍♂️

If you don’t mind kids making money, you can’t mind the chaos that follows. It won’t ever be uniformed as not all states abide by the same rules (high school) and not all colleges have the same funds.

It isn't like our WR room is we transferring to Oregon, OSU, Georgia....no they are going to Appy State, Maryland, and Miss State.

The chaos didn't have to happen. 🤦
