Mike Matthews to portal? [He’s staying]

This is what fans wanted.

Pay them!
This is what radio host and media personalities put in the heads of casual fans without knowing how bad of a wreck it would cause.

Paying the players isnt the problem. If TN had hauled in a few big name free agents, this board would be ecstatic.

The real problem, Heupel is terribly mismanaging the portal and his roster (mostly offensive roster).

NIL was supposed to eliminate restrictions on athletes profiting from their Name, Image, & Likeness, NOT start a bidding war on players. How did Congress and the Courts get this so wrong? If they aren't careful, CFB will go the way of Nascar. Too much Government involvement will eventually sour even the most dedicated fans.
You may have this wrong. Congress is not involved in this issue. I will agree the courts have played a big role in NIL but the courts pretty much have screwed up lots of things lately.

It wouldn't surprise me if the NCAA powers that be are just sitting in a big room laughing their a$$ off watching the universities and fans piss and moan about tampering    . Kinda like, you asked for it and now you've got it---deal with it.

Free agency has officially hit college football. Best not to choose a favorite player anymore as the rosters will change from year to year. Free agency killed MLB for me. I guess it’s just a matter of time now for college football.

I can't help but roll my eyes and laugh at the "NIL apparel" the Vol Shop and other outlets have. Yeah...let's overpay for already-inflated tshirts because it has some mercenary's name and number on it. They may as well take the names off the backs of the jerseys and just toss them in a bin at the end of each game, and redistribute them for the next game the way a middle-school PE class does with red team/blue team vests.

I'm at past the point where I don't give a damn who leaves or arrives via the portal.

When you have parents/handlers with a small window to capitalize then you’ll have chaos. Kids for the most part are seeking advice from those closest to them.
Yes....because the NCAA is full of idiots who were made to humble themselves in court instead of handling the issue on the front end. Things never go well if you're humbled In court. You are completely glossing over the events that got us here.

I'm done with college football. Going back to NFL where at least the players are highest level professional talent.

And that's the problem. We need congress involved to reign it in. The NCAA will laugh itself into extinction at this point because the big 10 and the SEC WILL get tired of this, kick them out of college football entirely, form their own league, spend millions to lobby Congress for an anti-trust exemption and then they will get this under control but it will destroy what's left of college football as we know it in the process because the NCAA is the most inept, retarded, and absolutely cowardly sports organization on the planet and I say that as a Panthers fan who hate watching his favorite NFL team because of how badly it's run. That's how bad the NCAA is when it comes to football.

How so? We have players from the weakest group hitting the portal and that’s mismanaging? We had Boo dictate what he was doing then it cascaded from there with WR. Addition by subtraction if those leaving know they can’t compete with Boo.

And who put that "weak" WR room together? 2 of which were big money portal acquisitions. Josh Heupel.

I normally consider it a great take if it’s you that considers it terrible.
We’ve never interacted before so that’s strange you have a pre-conceived notion about my opinion.

Explain to me how we are babying Nico? Educate me.

Wouldn't surprise me, but it will be interesting to see just how much this staff values him. It always comes down to the number, but since there's not been any real urgency on the portal front by this staff, we either have equal or better talent coming via our recruits or an unannounced portal addition. Matthews might not have a choice of coming back.
Yeah it just seems like a Boo Carter thing. We’ll see.

Maybe MM is stupid and doesn't know the routes or refuses to block. There are reasons he could not get on the field, we just are not privileged to them because we are not in the builing
Then tell us why it took so long to get Jamal Lewis on the field under Fulmer. Everyone knew and could see he was a stud. Only after getting shellacked by FLA yet again, did Fulmer relent and finally put him on the field. Surprise!….he ran over everyone. Josh Dobbs was said to be not great in practice, but we saw what happened when he got on the field, he was a flat out gamer. Accept the fact that coaches can be wrong, otherwise they wouldn’t be getting fired all the time.

The staff did. Once you hit the field it’s your job as the player to elevate your game. The staff didn’t cause the players to be limited in routes or drop the ball. The staff did make Sampson the focal point because those players were backups being starters. Find ways to win and that was Heupel did as the coach.

Most teams won't take a guy back from the portal and people were adamant yesterday that "they made their choice and XX% never find a new team, so let them go."

He's likely just leveraging the threat to leave for a better deal of some kind and wouldn't do the paperwork but that's a problem too.

Letting that leverage work is like feeding a bear from your deck, the bears learn there's food at your deck and will show up regularly.
Facts ⬆️

Up to the coaches not to feed. Let em leave. Players can’t hold all the cards. To the players, yes you now have the right to leave so you can get your green Bentley instead of the black one. So leave then I say. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. I’ll NEVER remember you except that you never accomplished anything except a money grab. All while blue collar Joe’s work their butts off and save all year to justify tickets and jerseys for their kids.

Because he couldn’t block early…it took 4 games to be the starter. UGA game and he even recently was quoted of telling the story of how Peyton told him it was protecting him that would help hinder him seeing the field

His own words. Practice matters…always humbling for fans to be wrong decades later.

Portal is getting insane man.

Was talking with a neighbor earlier who is a Whiskey fan

Apparently they had a guy who threatened to go to the portal so they bumped up his NIL and gave him a "re-up bonus" if you will

Guy took the money and still went to the portal lol.

Got a bad feeling schools are only gonna get burned so many times with this nonsense before everyone just throws their arms up
I have be telling my friends that now that college football and it's players truly a business, that players excepting NIL should have to sign a contract. The contract would help stop this foolishness, that is if it were drawn up by people other than the athletic departments.

That would require congress to give the NCAA an anti-trust exemption. It all comes back to the NCAAs hubris

Yeah, that is crazy but whatever helps you sleep tonight. Lets see if Heupel "finds way to win" next season with this roster of undeveloped players.
