Milton has an offseason sandwiched around 4 games to roll into the Swamp in 2023. Yeehaw

I hate to say it, but if the Vols cannot learn how to play on the road and get a defense, we are going to lose a lot of games next year anyway—no matter who the QB is.
Agreed. Unless we hammer the portal, I don’t see a quick fix on defense. Even with that, there are so many holes.

Every game Tillman has been back, the chemistry is off with the Offense. It’s the timing. We flourished when he was out of the lineup. 🤷🏼

I believe he’s much better than he was last year and will be fine. He will get the start game 1 next year so get used to it
Don't see the part about him being better.

I do agree he'll get the first start. He will likely be the starter at least until we face some tougher teams. As I've said, he will be given the opportunity to show he has improved. I just haven't seen enough from him to show he'll hold onto the QB1 spot the entire season similar to how he couldn't hold onto it last season. Heupel has shown at TN and UCF that he will switch QBs during the season if a QB is not making his offense click they way it should.

LSU was a road game for what it's worth.

I feel like GA broke us and it's not a "road game" effect. We looked bad against Mizzou at home on Senior night until the 3rd quarter.

He throws so damn hard and high often. Even when he’s accurate it’s like catching a Nolan Ryan fastball every time!
I've said it repeatedly. Milton has always had a gifted arm in terms of strength. He's also had a shot with 3 different coaching staffs only to fail at winning the starting job. I have to think that if the light were going to come on for him, it would have by now. What we saw last night didn't look all that different from when he started last year. JG had a decent arm, too, but he just never could put it together. Hope he proves me wrong, but I don't think Milton is the answer next season.

I turned game off late in the 3rd couldn’t stomach the embarrassment what happened to hooker?
Tried to run and suffered what looked like a knee injury. No contact. Just made some weird move and the knee gave. Went down and dropped the ball before hitting the ground and it was ruled a fumble.

So is the thought he will be the starter next year.

10000000% Heupel isn't going to turn over the starting job to a true freshman when he has a former starter who backed up Hooker for 2 seasons and will be 3 offseasons into the install. Milton should have the job guaranteed going into next season. That was the case before Hooker's injury. Now Milton gets to have a jump start at it with a game vs Vandy and the bowl game.

Milton will be the starter next year. And because of Hendon’s injury, his starting job starts next week. He has 2 games and bowl practices to get ready for the offseason and starting next year. This ain’t rocket science
Well, I tend to agree with Patrick. Regardless, while it's not rocket science, physical ability and time don't always result in a guy being a solid SEC qb. If that were always the formula, how does one explain JG? Milton may start by default because folks rave about how he looks in practice, but when the lights are on and the bullet are live, we'll see if he's made the progress necessary. I really, really am pulling for him because this league can be brutal on young QBs. I would hate to see TJ or Nico get thrown to the lions before they're ready. Some guys can be shaken and never get their confidence back. Better to bring those two along slowly if possible.

JG simply didn't have the IQ or skills to be a starter in the SEC, much less the Pac 12..... I mean for God's sake, he changed rating to dual threat in recruiting.....

JG getting all those starts was like a charity giving away something to someone who couldn't earn it themselves.

"Has not proven" while he hasn't been a starter in over 20+ games because of Hooker's emergence.

Milton starting 1 game into Heupel's install here is vastly different from him taking over starter due to Hooker's injury 2 offseasons and 22 games in between starts......

This notion we are getting the same Joe Milton we last saw as a starter is silly... And if you honestly believe that, can't wait to hear you thoughts on Heupel because that should be a glaring indictment on his coaching
I think Milton makes pretty good reads most of the time (no one is perfect as VN demands) and he’s been more aggressive running the ball. The good news is we don’t have to wait until next year. Well, it’s not good news but as far as seeing what Milton has it is good. I believe he will do well but he’s following someone that was starting to grow to legend status so VN will be brutally critical of Milton isn’t perfect.

He won't be as flashing as Hooker, but Milton is going to bring the power run to the offense that we don't have with Hooker. I'm very at ease with Milton next year.

Me too. He’s calm in the pocket, keeps his eyes downfield but will run when needed. And no one can cover WRs 50+ yards downfield. We’re good.

From the viewpoint of your competition, whoever it is, won’t be Hendon Hooker, and that’s a good thing in our eyes. Whoever it is, can’t possibly be better. Did anyone here care who came after Wuerffel, Tebow or Trask? No, you were just happy as hell you didn’t have to deal with those guys again. Same applies here, Hooker has been phenomenal, steady, poised and smart. I’ll gladly take my chances against whoever is next.

The throw to Squirrel last night just shows his top notch ability. Rolling to the left and throwing it 60 yards was insane.
Be nice if squirrel would ever catch it in stride instead of falling down everytime

He has shown some signs of improvement.

Barring another transfer coming in ( which I would be fine with) , I dont see how he isn't starter next season.

2 years in the system, can stretch the field as much as any QB out there, appears to have learned to be more physical running the ball.

He has his issues but expecting Iamaleava to roll in as a starter from Day 1 is a stretch.

Jackson was a project QB from the onset.... I think he would have gotten more playing time if Hooker didn't go nuclear and Milton didn't stay on the team (transfer)...... Right now, Milton is QB1 and the transition QB to Nico....

I would have loved to seen Jackson more, but Hooker went crazy and Milton didn't transfer out.
Jackson has been injured for a few weeks and I do not know his health status. I would not call him a project. n He was impressive the few times he played, especially the game he was injured. He is a better runner than Milton and appeared to be more accurate on the short and medium passes. Milton appears to be the best 60 yard passer I have ever seen, but he still has problems throwing over the middle and the swing passes. He is timid runner, but is so strong that when he is hit, he can move the pile. He runs best up the middle. I had thought he had improved this year, but I am unsure that is the case. If Hooker is unable to play the rest of the year, I fear we may be in trouble unless we can develop a much better running game. USCe was supposed to be venerable to the run, but after the first series, our running game seemed to disappear.

However, We have won more games this year than most everyone expected. If we beat Vandy, we will have ten wins and the possibility of a bowl game. Overall it has been an exciting and better year than 90% ever dreamed about and we BEAT BAMMA. It is still a year to remember. Let's see what happens the rest of the year and see what happens in the off season and Spring and Fall practices. We will lose a lot of production from our Seniors and will need to find a lot of new talent to win ten or more games next year. Lets have a good week of practice and win our tenth game next Saturday.

Stats do not tell the whole story or even much of a story when you only have 8 attempts, but you believe 50% is good?

He led 2 drives. The first, he drove the team down the field and they got stopped on a 4th down run. The 2nd ended in a TD. Add to that the fact that Tennessee was down 3 scores and was in desperation mode, and I don't think he played terribly. He moved the offense effectively. Yes, he did have some overthrows. But he also made some plays.

I don't think it's fair to say that Milton will be a bust next year, but it's also fair to hold back on saying that he'll be great too. Sometimes, it's okay to acknowledge that we just don't know. Just as we didn't know with Hooker the spring before the 2021 season. I do think Heupel will figure out the QB situation, though. He always has throughout his career.

I wouldn't count out Tayven Jackson. The QB competition will be wide open. As it should be.

I hope it is, just haven't seen enough of Jackson to form an opinion.

Despite the irony intended in my screen name, I am not sold on Milton. Don't know if you can predicate an entire offense on 50 yard bombs and QB runs.
