Milton’s accuracy and velocity

From the viewpoint of your competition, whoever it is, won’t be Hendon Hooker, and that’s a good thing in our eyes. Whoever it is, can’t possibly be better. Did anyone here care who came after Wuerffel, Tebow or Trask? No, you were just happy as hell you didn’t have to deal with those guys again. Same applies here, Hooker has been phenomenal, steady, poised and smart. I’ll gladly take my chances against whoever is next.

I think that makes sense to a degree. But you also have to look at Heupel's history with QBs. You can't find a season when his QB wasn't ultra-productive, either while he was Head Coach or OC. Whoever wins the job will be a productive QB, in all likelihood. Another, better analogy might be when Shane Matthews departed, we thought things would get easier, but they didn't, because Spurrier was just going to produce QBs and offense.

The wild card is, will Tennessee's defense be better? It would be hard to be worse. If Tennessee can get the defense up to par, the QB doesn't have to be as good. I also think Tennessee will lean more heavily on the run next year with Sampson breaking out at RB.

Milton can not win you games consistently..You guys know it and it's obvious watching him throw the ball ..If Jackson or Nico can't beat him out we will be looking for a new coach yet again. Hoping he gets a QB in the portal.

We have the schedule to win 9-10 games again next year. Milton will determine the total. It’s a bad idea to start a freshman.
We may have the schedule but do we have the defense? What talent we do have will be gone. The offense will take a step back regardless of who is at QB.

Fair points and good comparison.

Spurrier had some really big hits at QB, and a couple who were just guys. Matthews, Wuerffel, Grossman were the phenoms. Guys like Terry Dean and Jesse Palmer were just okay, Doug Johnson very good but not great.

Will be interesting to see. Also agree that Huepel has to fix the defense for long term success.

We return a lot of talent, but sadly most of our D. We lose Hooker, Tillman, Fant, D Wright, and Carvin. We can find replacements in the portal for everyone other than QB. It takes a while to learn this offense, and I don’t think a traditional transfer want to be a stopgap to Nico.

Milton will be the starter next year. And because of Hendon’s injury, his starting job starts next week. He has 2 games and bowl practices to get ready for the offseason and starting next year. This ain’t rocket science
Are you a Dr too ? What's HH prognosis ?

Milton should have moved to tight end a looonngggg time ago. If he did, he would have a shot at the NFL.

I hate to say it, but if the Vols cannot learn how to play on the road and get a defense, we are going to lose a lot of games next year anyway—no matter who the QB is.

Thankfully we have a slew of DB commitments which should improve the secondary.

Be nice if squirrel would ever catch it in stride instead of falling down everytime

Physics. Smaller guy catching a rocket propelled projectile has difficulty controlling the forward momentum generated by that projectile and gets pulled off his feet by it. The solution is obviously more peanut butter and weight training. 😂

The good news is that blazing track star speed has a QB that can hit him a country mile down the field.

I just want to finish out 11-2 on the season. If Navy Shuler is the guy that gets that done, then fine. If it’s Milton, great. But this team, right now, really needs to close this season out with two wins any way possible. Worry about QB battles in the spring.

Nope it will be Nico
Have you watched film on Nico?

He's a great high school quarterback. And I think he's going to have a fantastic career at Tennessee. But perhaps we should meter our expectations a bit. He's not an elite SEC QB right now, and I doubt that will change between now and next summer.

Agree with all of that. I’d also point out that even when he “just” had Dean, Palmer, and Johnson, he still had a lot of success and they still put up big yardage. I believe all 3 either won an SEC championship or an East championship. But those Florida teams also played defense. That needs to be Tennessee’s next big step forward.

Will Nico be a part of bowl practice?

He needs to get in a college weight program as soon as possible.

He was 4 for 8 for 101 yards and 2 TDs.

Well 1 TD . But yeah, I don't get the Milton hate here. He played well. Both drives he got us down into scoring position. Yes, he missed an easy TD to Tilman. Let's not act like Hooker hasn't missed those same passes at times this year.

I don't know what that call was on 4th and short, but the OL seemed like they didn't know what they were doing. Maybe that's on Milton. Maybe Hooker was better at directing the OL during pre-snap. But I kinda feel like that's also on Heup. Should've called timeout and set up a 4th and 1 play. I mean it likely wouldn't have mattered in the end considering we were down 24 and couldn't stop Rattler.

Sorry, but this is absurd on multiple levels.

Looking for a new coach? Seriously? Good grief man.
