Minnesota football players boycott their bowl game in protest of suspension of 10 tea

Team changed their tune overnight. For a team that has taken such a hard stand in support of their teammates to reverse course like this does not bode well for the "Minnesota 10" with regards to their future as MU football players.

It will play out over the next couple of months, and litigation is all but guaranteed. There's no way the Wallet Leeches will miss the opportunity to hit the deep pocket, or get their 15 minutes of fame.

Only question is how many ESPN segments this will eventually result in.

Go Vols.

I'm a Washington State fan. It's going to be really annoying watching the bowl game.

I'm curious.. Does anyone think that running a train on chick even if she's willing is 'cool'? I mean at what point when your standing in line waiting for your sloppy 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th turn does a guy have the thought, however fleeting it may be, that what's happening is not cool and may very well have really bad consequences?

I was no angel when I was young but dayummm.. Come on man..

Universities are in a difficult situation when sexual assault accusations are made. On the one hand, you have the accused with rights and an assumption of innocence until proven guilty. On the other hand you have the rights of the victim who should not have to be forced into contact with their assailant. It's unfair to expect a victim to withdraw from school while their assailant continues to attend. You also have the rights of other students to be in a safe environment. If an accused rapist is allowed to continue attending class and then commits other sexual assaults to students, while the university was aware of the situation, it makes the university itself somewhat responsible.

I'd prefer universities to error on the side of caution with respect to student safety. I'm aware that may unfairly penalize students falsely accused of crimes but that seems to be the least bad option.

I'm all for victim's rights, but what I mean by "victim" is someone who isn't in a video acting like Jenna Jameson.

I don't believe real rape victims act "playfully" with their attackers during the sexual intercourse. To say that rape victims take such pleasure during the attacks does a disservice to actual rape victims who are subjected to horrific and traumatic assaults.

Most of the sports media articles I read were critical of the team for backing the suspended players, especially to the point of a boycott and demanding that the AD and President "apologize" and "are held accountable for their actions."

It would seem that the script has been flipped. It doesn't look like the university admin budged one inch, which (again) is an ominous sign for the players facing expulsion or suspension. We'll see how that plays out.

My guess would be that Coach Claeys might have crapped in his hat with his tweet supporting the players' boycott. Doubtful he scored any points with the admin there, especially considering how it played out. Sometimes, nothing is the best thing to say.

So...boycott over. Bowl game on. The over/under for the number of times this gets mentioned during the bowl game is probably around a dozen. For once, Mike Leach won't be the focal point of a game he's involved in.

Safe to say that Minnesota football will be feeling the effects of this incident for at least the next couple of seasons. How big, or negative that effect is remains to be seen.

Rules that govern Title IX / EOOA and acceptable behavior at universities are different from laws that result with someone being convicted of a crime.

There is also the acceptable behavior that is set forth by a coach or AD for the players.

Same is true for an employment situation - one can get fired for something that is unacceptable based on the employer rules and/or compliance to state / federal guidelines even though it may not be illegal per the criminal system.

These players that are boycotting are not just protesting the football coach - they are protesting the right of the University of Minnesota to administer their guidelines and procedures as it relates to student conduct. If the University gives in they might as well throw all decisions they will make regarding any student on any matter out the door going forward.

If a state school decides to be punitive in spite of what law enforcement investigations may have turned up, it may be time for them to reconsider their policy.

They are not deciding guilt. They are deciding if the actions violate codes of conduct or violate other state and federal guardrails they have to operate under.

The fault still lies with the young men who let themselves get into this situation - someone who is thinking straight would have known where this would probably lead and avoided the situation.

And what about the fault of the young woman? It takes two to tango. Did the school hand down any actions on her?

Obviously the other members of the Minnesota football team think this is acceptable behavior ... as does several on this board.

Those involved should consider themselves lucky because if this had went to court - they were toast.

But it didn't go to court based on the evidence, or lack of evidence.

In this particular case, justice may have actually been served.

You decide to invite a group of your friends over to your house for a party. While there, a few of them get your baby sister drunk and have intercourse with her.

Convenient that you you suggest baby sister or relative.

In truth, these colleges allow both men and women of no relation to them engage in drinking, drugs and sex on their campus all of the time.

Yet, you only want to hold the men accountable for their actions.

Maybe someone will rape her and teach her a lesson.

Yes. Your sister claims she was drunk, can't remember much of what happened, and that it wasn't consensual... but apparently your friends have a recording that indicates it was.

See, this is the exact reason why we need a justice system. Because fathers, brothers and other relatives will not ask the tough questions and hold the woman accountable for putting herself in a poor situation in the first place. Instead, they will "white knight" want to turn the responsibility on to the other irresponsible people involved.

Both sides need to be held accountable for irresponsible behavior... or none of them do. It needs to be balanced.

We already see some of the effects. The high school recruit that was statutory raped by the woman who starred in the amateur porn video announced he won't be going to Minnesota.

Antoine Winfield Sr. said his son, who put together a great freshman season, won't be playing there anymore.

She gets raped by at least six people...they get kicked out of school.

Gutsy move being that he was one of the five being suspended for a year.

They got away with it this time. Maybe they go pro?

Maybe she'll go pro instead of starring in amateur porn. It sounds like she's really good at shouting "Pound me harder!" in gangbang videos. If she's going to be in those types of videos, she may as well get paid. Getting paid may have been her motive to star in this video. It's only a matter of time before the civil suit against the university comes out.

They hardly got away with anything. Even with video evidence proving the woman was being "playful" with the alleged attackers and was having "entirely consensual sex" with her alleged rapists, they're still being punished.

Administration held tight on these suspensions based on their report. Leaders of the boycott caved after they (and more importantly their PARENTS) got a gander at it. These former players might not want to VOLUNTARILY go into a court room and expect a majority of reasonable sane citizens to endorse their constitutional right to team up on one girl. They could bank on having a favorable percentage of message board posters like you and Rasputin who want to line back up on her. :dunno:

They got a few seconds of her smiling before they raped her. Snuff films have a market also.

He wasn't going to be able to go there anyway. Other schools will know about his incident. It will probably end up limiting his choices as now he would be considered a risk.

T

The videos included sex.

The police investigator wrote that the accuser "sounds as though she is somewhat intoxicated, but is not slurring her words and is certainly conscious and aware of what is going on. She does not appear to be upset by the sexual activity and does not indicate that she wants it to stop ... and the sexual contact appears entirely consensual."

The video also showed her having a good time between partners. If she was crying in the videos, or looking distraught, or saying she didn't want to continue having sex, I would agree with you. But it seems like the players have considerable evidence proving the woman is a skank, and nobody has any evidence whatsoever proving a rape took place.

The video was a couple of minutes of an incident that lasted over an hour. The video was taken at the start of the incident well before player after player after player after player after player after player took their turn.

The video content was controlled by those taking the video - selective videoing at the best. Do you really think they were going to video anything that showed them in the wrong?

Is there footage of consensual sex? Yes. Meanwhile, I haven't read about any proof of rape.

If you wanted to make the case that Carlton Djam deserves to be suspended for being an accessory to the statutory rape of the high school football recruit, I would agree wholeheartedly with you on that. There's proof that happened. That's the only rape that can actually be proven, at this point. There's proof the accuser is skanky, but no proof she got raped.

It's a shame genuine rape victims get lumped in with women like this one and the Duke lacrosse team's accuser.

Your interpretation of consensual most likely varies with those of us still burdened with souls. I do have a question, how did you get a copy of the video? Maybe if I could stomach a viewing, I'd come to the same conclusion. Haven't seen any links but you obviously have because you can guarantee it was consensual.
