Minutes: BHH and Powell

I have been giving Barnes the benefit of the doubt. He is just not a good coach. However, I am not for changing. Tennessee could do a lot worse. At least Tennessee usually makes the NCAAs.

Yes. He did a terrible job putting TN in position to win minus two starters and having others well below 100% with viruses.

I know how sample sizes work. But, you can’t use a career FG% as a crutch. This isn’t gambling. Bailey is shooting barely over 20% from the field this season, which is far more indicative of what the likely outcome of that last shot will be and NOT the career percentage.

Based on your reply, I question that you actually understand how sample sizes work.

Sports aren’t just raw numbers. How do you not understand that? Momentum and trends are a real confounding variable that you have to deal with. Something that isn’t accounted for in the dataset but has an impact on the outcome. Bailey is playing AWFUL this season and I guarantee you that has far more of an effect on his chances of making that shot than a career percentage. This is why coaches coach and we don’t let computers draw up plays based on shooting percentages.

it was a bad miss. It was not even close. Can we agree on that. Powell would make that shot.

It was a few inches left. Powell misses shots too. If he was healthy I’d rather have had Powell taking the shot. It’s not logical to argue that a sick Powell has a better chance than a not sick Bailey.

There is no evidence that Powell was actually sick other than Tony Basilio, let’s not use his word as law.

The coaches also see what happens in practice. Bailey is a streaky shooter and he’s on a cold streak. He could have easily gone 4 for 5 tonight.

This is a poor hill to die on TGO. Powell is shooting 41% from three this year. Bailey 23%. Bailey had already missed a wide open shot earlier in the game. Barnes basically admitted Powell was better equipped to make the shot cause he subbed him in right after when defense became completely unimportant and we were just gonna foul even after a made bucket

Barnes seems to value experience and Defense over Offense. The problem is our scoring droughts are what causes us to lose games. We have too many players on the floor that can’t score.
Simple and exactly why we dont play to potential

Yeah, and Powell could have gone 9-12. You’re just throwing random numbers out there. This doesn’t support your argument. Based on what we’ve seen THIS season, Powell has a much better chance of making that shot than Bailey. It’s not even a debate. It’s fact.

I even said before the season on here I thought expectations for Powell were too high, just cause we were congested at guard and he was streaky in a small sample size at Auburn. But I can’t even say “told ya so” because it’s not even his fault he hasn’t produced much, Barnes just won’t put him out there consistently

I want someone to love me and defend me as much as you do with Barnes lol

He’s the TN coach. I’m optimistic that this can be a special year. The recruiting is off the charts. I don’t get the Legions of the Miserable constantly bashing him and getting their panties all waded up when their dumb takes are countered with facts. There is no defending you.

The game was in effect over when Powell went back in. It was a smart move to not let Bailey’s confidence get crushed even more if he had taken another desperation 3.

Even BTO isn't defending Bailey being in over Powell; that should tell you how lonely this hill is.

All that matters is how has he been shooting the 3 this year. Career means nothing as far as this season goes.

The career numbers validate that 9 for 39 coming in to the game is a slump and shutting him down would be a dumb move. Especially when you don’t know week to week who won’t be able to play at all.

I can’t say I’m surprised to learn that you don’t have such a person in your life.

Much rather be single at this point in my life. A lot less hassle. Had a girlfriend last summer and that was not for me lol

No it wouldn’t.

He has sucked for a full calendar year now. Whatever positives he brought in December 2020 are fine. He’s a fifth year senior. This is who he is. He isn’t going to change.
