Not to hijack this thread, but the person I'm most disappointed in from tonight's game is JJJ. He was our leading rebounder last year and is usually pretty good around the rim. Why in the hell did he not try to take it to the hoop once we were in the bonus instead of jacking up (and missing) a ton of 3's???

Not gonna comment on Bailey. As for Powell, he clearly doesn’t get more playing time because at best he’s an inconsistent defender.

I’ll let the anti Barnes crowd continue with their pity party.

JJJ’s performance proved that the Arizona game was an anomaly that may not be repeated this year. He morphed back into his former self tonite.
Bailey’s shooting mechanics are so off it’s obvious the moment of release that the shot has no chance. And his defense allowed drive-bys down the lane when he was in.
Season has just begun and we are already in the head coach head-scratching mode.

We had a 6 point lead and three straight possessions to try and extended it and we had an awful lineup on the court and Barnes waited till the lead was cut to 1 to call timeout and change the rotation. The Tide never looked back after that.

I just can’t defend Barnes anymore for his lack of faith in Powell or BHH. I refuse to accept “defense” as a legitimate answer considering the alternative is Victor Bailey.

Is only loss on Barnes, or is it on Barnes scheming up a short handed team and building that 6pt lead with that squad?

How did you possibly take my response as “salty and smart asses”? I simply was saying it’s not a free spot, thus it will count, that simple…not sure what you want explained.

He did a great job scheming it up tonight. But he also had some head scratching personnel decisions down the stretch that cost them the game. Other than a few possessions where our guys gave up on drives to the basket, they played pretty hard tonight. I have supported Barnes thoroughly in his time here and will continue to do so....he's elevated this program to be a top 10 type team year in and year out. But last night was on him.

Because it’s no different than just posting “You’re wrong!”. You could explain an actual rule. You could try being polite instead of rude EVERY time. But you keep being you, BTO.

Half of the first 8 were either not there or playing sick. The bench was full of guys that were in high school 6 months ago and the opponent was one of the top teams in the conference and the country. Head scratching? This isn’t the NBA. The players make lots of mistakes and don’t do exactly as they’re told. One weak link effs up the entire defensive effort.

I don't see that at all in regards to Powell's defense. At minimum, he is better in comparison to Bailey in that regard.

Who else was sick other than the rumored Powell, who looked completely fine?

My biggest gripe about last night was having Bailey on the floor the majority of the second half over Powell. Bailey showed you time after time that he can't hit a big shot and wide freakin open at that. Having James out there so much in the second half too was questionable. James at least plays good defense though. Bailey has been horrendous on both ends.

To end it, like I said in a previous post, other than a few drives in the second half where we let up on Bamas drives to the basket, we had pretty good effort last night. Defensively, they played a pretty good game against a pretty good offensive team.

So who is the closet on this team? When the team needs a big basket, who shoots it? I will say on Defense at the end, shooters for Alabama got to good of a shot from 3. And, JJJ seemed way to slow to come at them

JJJ just needs to quit shooting 3's period .. he needs to play inside period .. they gotta get more shots for Powell id they are gonna rely on 3's ... Barnes says Powell defense not good enough .. well we gave up 2 wide open 3's at end of game .. Bailey and JJJ 3 point confideence is shot ,, need Poweel in the game when a 3 is needed period ..defenxe or not .. come on Barnes .. dont stubborn enought that it costs you a game when your best 3 point shooter is sitting on bench ...

agree JJJ and Bailey arent covering either .. Powell needs some of JJJ and Baileys mins ..... Fulky, Kumwa, JJJ , HHH should rotate down low ... Powell, Santi , Chandler and the little dude .. guard mins ...

It’s being reported that Fulk and KC AND Powell and JJJ were all sick and/or had positive COVID tests. Powell was given 26 minutes versus Arizona and Bailey had 1. There is no logical explanation for not continuing with a similar distribution at Bama other than Powell being limited with a virus and simply couldn’t perform. I’ll be shocked if Bailey gets a similar amount of PT relative to Powell in a week.

I agree with this but BBall is a game that almost every game has runs. When a team has a run guess what usually the other team doesn't score or hardly. The 10 to zero run at the end of half IMO was aided by refs terrible foul on SV should have been a charge 4 point turnaround. Also ON was short arming good open looks during that span that aided probably another 6 point differential into 10 to zip game killer.
Other than that stretch I thought ON had a good game.

I’m normally the last person to believe anything from Basilio, but given that the info he reported about two starters being out turned out to be accurate, I’m more inclined to believe he was also right about JJJ and Powell being less than 100%.

If it’s true JJJ and Powell were both also sick then I’ve got a really hard time pinning anything on the coaching staff, borderline miracle we had a chance to win the game if that’s the case.

Hey TGO, sweetheart, in my sweetest and softest voice I will try my best to explain. Please in no way do I want you to take this as condescending or rude, and if at anytime you are feeling attacked just say pineapple…the rule where a player doesn’t count if he stays for extra COVID year was only this past year, going forward those players count against your limit, just like this upcoming season in football they’ll count against the 85.
