Minutes: BHH and Powell

He’s the TN coach. I’m optimistic that this can be a special year. The recruiting is off the charts. I don’t get the Legions of the Miserable constantly bashing him and getting their panties all waded up when their dumb takes are countered with facts. There is no defending you.

What’s Victor Bailey shooting since January 2021 from 3?

ON is so frustrating to watch. He will make a play or 2 here and there that makes you think "wow" then disappears for 3/4ths of the game.

Uros was actually serviceable tonight. He is what he is, not gonna ever be flashy, but if he can play solid defense and get rebounds and hit a few free throws like he did he's contributing well.

BHH showed tonight that at the very least he needs more minutes. He's still got a long way to go, but he's gonna get better the more he plays.

Powell should be playing a lot more and Bailey should be sitting. That's just how it has to be moving forward.

Zeigler is a pest. Plays with tremendous grit but he's got to realize his limitations. At times he's forcing it. He's not gonna finish at the rim like KC can, but Late in the game he did a great job driving and kicking it out to open guys. We just had the wrong ones on the floor in Bailey and James.

This was a gutsy performance considering we were down our 2 best players. I think some better coaching decisions down the stretch and we're looking at a huge upset win (being down 2 players) on the road to start conference play. Hopefully we build off this and get back on track. Really need to win at LSU now.
Not beating LSU. Another team Barnes can’t beat.

The game was in effect over when Powell went back in. It was a smart move to not let Bailey’s confidence get crushed even more if he had taken another desperation 3.
I disagree with that, if he subbed him after the first free throw we were down 4 with 15 seconds left. Bama could’ve missed the second, then we get a quick two and foul, and they split the free throws again and it’s a 3 point deficit with maybe 6 seconds left, which obviously is not a great spot but not impossible either. And that’s not even best case scenario
Like I said I think Barnes still thinks Bailey is the better defender so he had him in there (as well as JJJ) when he thought we may make a three and then have to play defense for 15 seconds. Once it became a situation where we were only going to be fouling, and thus needed better shooting players, in came Powell for Bailey

And regardless, that was one point of many. It’s pretty clear regardless of what Barnes thinks that Powell is the better option to take that shot than Bailey.
Literally every player on Tennessee who has taken a three this year, other than Uros who missed one desperation three as the shot clock ran down, is shooting a better percentage than Bailey.
ON, Kent Gilbert, Powell, Chandler, Vescovi, ZZZ, Q, JM, BHH, JJJ, Bailey, Uros. That’s the order before tonight

No it wouldn’t.

He has sucked for a full calendar year now. Whatever positives he brought in December 2020 are fine. He’s a fifth year senior. This is who he is. He isn’t going to change.

Okay Coach.

Actually he’s a 5th year junior eligibility wise. You get to enjoy him for more than another season and a half.

In his last 17 games, Victor Bailey is shooting 22.6% from 3

Since Powell went in with 15 seconds, shouldn’t TN had pulled out the win?

I doubt that. I’d be shocked if he’s at UT next year.

I think it’s a free spot. Barnes obviously won’t be chasing him off. Perhaps Bailey will have had enough love from the VN posters and drunk, Basilio, idjit callers by then and decide to move on.

Huh you got me there, guess I shouldn’t have argued that whenever Powell plays Tennessee is guaranteed to win those minutes decisively
(That’s sarcasm, of course that’s not what I am saying or anybody else I’ve seen)

C’mon, I’ve seen on here you understand basketball (not that this is a situation that would’ve even require any extensive knowledge) so I can’t believe you think that having Bailey in there over Powell is really defensible, but I think you’ve made up your mind not to criticize Barnes about it so there’s no use

Fact is Bailey is a D-1 scholarship player and had a wide open look. Powell was a better option - if he wasn’t sick. Powell had the minutes versus Arizona so obviously he would have had more minutes tonight if he was physically able to play at a high level.

So you’re taking Basillo’s word, that Powell was sick and that’s why he didn’t play as much, over Barnes’s, who said it was because of defense?

I even said before the season on here I thought expectations for Powell were too high, just cause we were congested at guard and he was streaky in a small sample size at Auburn. But I can’t even say “told ya so” because it’s not even his fault he hasn’t produced much, Barnes just won’t put him out there consistently
I was one of Powell's biggest supporters when he committed. I believed he would be very successful in this offense. It sickens me that he doesn't play more when the player standing in his way has about half the natural talent and ability.

That’s not what Barnes said. And Barnes doesn’t show his cards. The January schedule is brutal so he’s not going to give out free health updates. And it would probably violate HIPAA.

Yes, I believe that Powell is sick. He took Bailey’s spot as evidenced by the Arizona game.

It might’ve been you that I discussed it with. And it frustrates me too, but not even because I think Powell is definitely a superstar in waiting. I’ve said a bunch of times I think Mashack would contribute a lot more to winning than Bailey would right now. I just don’t have the patience to wait for Bailey to get his mojo back, and it’s not even like he was a stud last year. We’re playing someone who really hurts us in the hope that he rediscovers his play from last year… which wasn’t all that great to begin with! I’m gonna resolve to be done criticizing Bailey after tonight cause all that can be said about it has been

I promise you it would not be a HIPAA violation for Barnes to say Powell has the flu

I don’t think you understand HIPAA. Get in line, it’s a long one

Even if sick, Powell was 2-3 shooting to Baileys 2-7.

The privacy rule is a federal law and covers verbal disclosures of patient information. Barnes isn’t going to go on the Vol Network and haphazardly be giving out the personal health information of his players… especially if it’s not the status of an injury witnessed during a game in a TV broadcast. Nothing gained and no reason to poke the dot gov bear. If things were to go south with any player they very well could come after their coaches for broadcasting their private health information. HIPAA isn’t exclusively related to health insurance portability. The first “A” in HIPAA stands for “Accountability”.

Last nights game was a typical classic game that comes down to "who have you got to take the BIG SHOT?" 3 minutes from the end I was thinking well who do we have? and I couldn't make up my mind who I wanted but I did know it wasn't Victor Bailey. Urgh
