So the coaches don't want a 9 game SEC season for next season (or few)? Not being a smart aleck, just not sure what they are planning to do next year.
(it's fine) Pretty much yes, they don't want a 9 game conference slate...however in the next 5 or 6 years (apparently) the rest of the conferences are reportedly planning to implement a 9 game system...so it may be more or less be inevitability that the SEC will have to make such a change down the road
As far as next year, it's felt one of two things will happen:
1)
If Missouri is cleared to join, then one of the cross division conference games (not the permanent opponent) on each team's schedule will be replaced, becoming Missouri and Texas a&m in the east and west divisions, respectively. Cross-divisional conference play for teams will then (for the next few seasons) consist of a yearly opponent and another one based on a rotation...it's still unknown however whether the rotation will still be a set order of home and homes (as it currently is) or an alternating order of home and away opponents [changing the opponent each year]
...in UT's case what would more than likely happen is one of the October sec west games (Arkansas, next team in the order - probably mississippi St) will be replaced by Missouri. Tennessee would then still play (along with Alabama) either Arkansas at home, Mississippi State at Starksville, or - if the entire cross division lineup is scrapped and reordered - whichever West team Tennessee is given next season
2)
Now, on the other hand
If the big 12 raises or refuses to drop any legal/buyout matters (i.e. doesn't let Missouri leave for another year), then the proposed 13 team schedule has been stated as giving Texas A&M 4 east teams and 4 west teams to play.
....I can't really tell you what effect that'd have on tennessee's schedule (save still playing all the east teams and bama); we really wouldn't be able to know what the game order and/or that season's West division opponents are until the SEC offices released that season's schedule
