MLB Draft thread....SEC edition

I say that Stewart is the only junior who leaves. Simcox will be back. I lean to thinking Lee is back but with his medical history he may decide now is the time. All other draft eligible Vols should not even consider leaving.

I've always thought 2-3 would go from the beginning. after the season I stated that Stew and Simcox would go and probably one more. My reason for Simcox going was the way he hit the last half of the season. Now that pops is hired he would need to be drafted fairly high (top 10 rounds) and I don't see that happening.

If we just lost Stew from the junior class I'll go ahead and claim a 16-14 record in the SEC next year........ we might lose Lee or Owenby but hopefully not both.

Simcox will be drafted higher than 10th round (5th to 7th) but he may still stay at UT. Regardless of the recent hire, they will do what is best for AJ in this matter and they should.

Will be very interesting to see if he falls out of the top 10 rounds. If so it will be clear teams are afraid he is staying. Can't draft a guy in top 10 rounds and not sign him with new draft rules

Is everyone thinking Cox comes back? Haven't seen him mentioned lately. Next 3 days are really important for this team.

For the draft eligible juniors the draft is about weighing leverage in the draft, dream of playing professional baseball and enjoyment of senior year in college. Except for a very few, coming back for your senior year is very costly in the draft. Simcox, Lee, Owenby and Cox could all get a $100,000 or more signing bonus this year, plus getting the final year of education (usually including room and baord) paid for when they finish pro baseball. If they come back for thier senior year, even with solid years they will be lucky to get a $20,000 signing bonus. Obviously Stewart is looking at a much bigger signing bonus. They must weigh that with the possibility of comng back to UT and hopefully help lead them to regional or beyond. Must respect the difficult choice and appreicate the time and effort these young man have already made for UT. If they decide to pursue professional ball then we must celebrate with them and their families and wish them the best. Hope UT produces more and more of these outstanding ballplayers and great young men. I think Stewart, Lee and Owenby are gone. I would have thought Simcox would go, but with the hiring of his Dad, I dont know. I think Cox could have gone, but I get the impression he is coming back. Good luck to all of them, great hire in Coach Simcox.

I hope someone hurries up and takes Everett. I do not want to see him in Nashville.

Dodgers just picked a Vandy pitcher. Apparently highly interested in Betts and Hayes.

I agree with everything you stated. A college education is certainly worth more than $500k over a lifetime. However, I based my number on what I thought it would take to play in the minors for three years and have enough left for a college education if it didn't work out. If I really did the math, I'd probably be light. Closer to $1M would be my comfort level for one of my children.

Then it makes all the sene in the world to rack up $300k in student debt then, correct?
