MLB Draft thread....SEC edition

Saw a stat on Twitter - Vanderbilt has 15 of the top 300 committed and only 4 will be signing with MLB teams.

We can't hang on to any of our top signees. Don't give me some BS about the money situation. These kids want to play for a winning program and coach. Much of the same happening at UF and LSU while we finish 10-14 in the SEC every single freaking year.

So what is your solution?

Solutions:

2.) A new coach.
3.) A new coach.

I think you get the idea. LSU, UF, Ole Miss, Arkansas, etc. don't sit around and whine about some advantage that Corbin and Vanderbilt have. It is time for us to realize we don't have the right guy leading the program. His west coast ties and style have meant nothing in the southeast.

Vanderbilt, Florida, LSU, and other baseball powers continue to get kids to bypass the draft while all of ours sign. Why don't they want to come play here? Are they being developed? Are they improving their draft stock by coming here? Did Kyle Serrano help himself by coming to UT?

Brilliant, who do you hire? And as far as your last question we will see next year.........

First, I want to congratulate the players on getting drafted! I'm hoping a couple other guys get picked as the rest of the draft rolls along,

Second, this is a good thing for the program. Since 2002, only once have we had 6 players drafted, 2006 and only three of those went before the 17th round.

So far, this draft is most comparable to the '04 and '05 drafts. In 2004 we had 5 players taken, none in the 1st round with the last being taken in the 16th at 488...2005 we had 2 players taken in round 1 with the last being taken in the 13th at 404.

In 2010, we also had five players taken, nobody in round 1, but 3 taken in the first 6 rounds, with the final guy getting picked, 16th, 488.

Only AJ, of the current players, was drafted out of high school. The last time we had a player go in the first round was 2009. There's a lot to sell imo.

great post 66, I wish the fly-bys saw the improvement in talent we have. Do we need to continue to improve, absolutely! Do we have a long way to go, absolutely! Everyone wants a quick fix this day and age and it can happen however it seldom does.

Big time programs lose many players to the draft. Vandy has been able to keep some great pitchers, but that is with a serious proven track record and agents/advisors that see the benefit of maturing and improving at the collegiate level. I think you will continue to see more high school kids that are not drafted in the first 3 or 4 rounds go to college. Certainly programs that almost promise a trip to Omaha have an advantage. I still think Serrano, with the improved recruiting, and updated style of play can get it done. We should absolutely celebrate those current players getting drafted and wish them the best. Crazy amount of hard work has paid of for those guys. Living a dream.

It's not as easy as you think.

In Florida's case, they signed (as an example) Tucker who is the brother of former Gator Preston Tucker. They knew there was virtually no chance he would ever get to school, but they didn't exactly have to spend a lot of time and energy to recruit him either. So, nothing was really lost there.

But, it's a guessing game as to who will stay and who will go and sometimes you sign a guy because no one else is really trying that hard because they know it's a waste of time. I doubt anyone really pursued Tucker besides Florida because he was all Gator and heading to the MLB anyway. Why bother?

Sometimes baseball recruiting is like a player getting an open shot in basketball. The player is open because that's precisely who the defense wants to shoot the ball.

It's hard to know (among the guys drafted in around the 7th round) who will stay and who will go. But, the good teams figure it out.

Good coaches also develop and win with a lesser level of talent before cashing in on past success. Corbin wasn't always signing David Price. It took a few years to get the David Prices of the world to come to Vandy.

I don't know that Lee is a guarantee to sign.

Agreed as stated previously.......he is one guy that could improve his draft slot with a knock-out year in 2016. Looking back over his 3 years, he really hasn't played that much. And he has a ton of upside at the plate.

Sort of surprised that no one has taken a chance on Jackson yet, I know the injury set him back but I really thought someone would draft him well before now.......

Lee was drafted as a pitcher.
