Much of what you posted I won't argue with, what I quoted above is debatable. I would say Vandy is to college baseball what Kentucky is to basketball.
I certainly would not compare what Vandy has done historically in any sport to what Duke has done in basketball. But, I have said that Vandy may have inadvertently lucked out in the same way Duke did, because Duke basically rode the ESPN coat tails into stardom.
Vandy sort of blew onto the scene right when college baseball was becoming a legit national media sport. And, in the best baseball league in America, which also happens to be the best sports league in the NCAA. Even with Corbin, I don't know that he could have made Vandy what it is now 20 years ago. Or 10 years from today.
I think Calipari has done a remarkable job working the current NCAA system up in Lexington. But I think it is terrible for basketball, and especially college basketball. I don't think what Corbin has done is anything but great for the sport of college baseball.
And I will again go on the record and say I hate partial scholarships for baseball, and am 100% for giving baseball student athletes full rides. That may or may not have a huge impact on Vandy, but I don't care, I think it is just wrong for everyone and especially the kids.
P.S. While Vandy certainly benefits from their grants in aid philosophy, the baseball student athletes are required to stay on course to graduate from Day 1, and even the kids who are guaranteed to be leaving after year 3.
