Peavy doesn't want to be a Brave. otherwise he would have waived his no trade clause and the deal would be done because the Braves by far offered the best package.

I was told those talks weren't over fwiw. Was told it was sort of how Furcal could still be an A.

I don't think it ever got to the point where the trade was contingent on Peavy waiving his no-trade clause. The Padres were fixated on getting Tommy Hanson out of the Braves; the Braves decreed that he was untouchable. Impasse. The Braves offered the best package, but they refused to include Hanson, and Towers was blind to everything else.

Not to say that Peavy was thrilled with the idea of coming to Atlanta, but I don't think it ever got that far anyway.

Injuns have a thing for former Cubs closers. first Borowski, now Wood.

i would love to see the Cubs ditch Marquis and get a left hand bat in the OF. Peavy would have been nice (and i thnk it eventually gets done) but right now he's not a necessity.

Marquis is the subject of trade talks with the Mets.

Burnett is a Yankee and unless the Cubs or Braves throw in the kitchen sink, Peavy will remain a Padre. No other team has the pieces that Kevin Towers wants. I doubt the Braves will throw in Hanson, not sure what the Cubs will do. One thing is for certain though, Towers saying the Cubs talks are dead is just a lot of talk. He'll listen if they are willing to say what he wants to hear.

I was reading Burnett was a potential insurance risk for the Braves and did not want to leave the AL. He would have felt comfortable if he was part of a pitching staff, NOT being an ace of one.

I guess the Braves will have to settle for Vazquez as the ace.

The Yankees just entered the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes. They also developed a backup plan in the form of Manny.

Braves and Furcal agree on a multiyear deal.

I like this deal for the Braves. Furcal's agent says they have discussed moving him to second base so K. Johnson can move to the outfield. Raffy would give them back a real leadoff man, too...Still, I feel like in the end Atlanta doesn't have the pitching to compete all summer with the Mets and Phils.

The phils and mets will have more trouble battling a team from a bit further south for division rights than they will the bravos. Even if you all get Peavy or someone else.

Phillies sign Jamie Moyer to a 2 year deal. My favorite baseball picture ever lives on...

The Braves will not compete in 2009 no matter what pitching they get. You can't win without an outfield.

Braves and Furcal agree on a multiyear deal.

It is a three year deal worth 30 mil with vesting options in '12. It is apparently for less what the A's offered to him. As reported by volfanbill, the Dodgers have re-entered the picture to bring the shortstop back. However, all signs are pointing towards an imminent return to Hotlanta.

DISCLAIMER:
"It's not done until we sign off and there's a physical exam, and we haven't gotten that far. Until a letter of agreement is signed, we don't even start the process to get him to Atlanta for a physical.''

-Paul Kinzer, Furcal's agent

So hold on to your horses folks, it's really not done yet.
