UGA "don't offer upfront NIL"? What's the source on that?
Through chatter among coaches and players (all at the high school level). Apparently uga has recruits do a value ranking where the recruit orders different topics 1-5. If NIL is #1 for the recruit, uga moves on (this is why Wingo and uga won't be a thing). They offer NIL opportunities once you get to school, but they don't give high schoolers a check. Their big point is the NFL paycheck is way bigger than NIL. They do a whole financial presentation for recruits, so it's not like there's no money, they just present NIL as opportunities for a player to earn. With Adonai Mitchell and Bear Alexander as examples, kids (and their guardians) chasing NIL don't tend to last at uga.

Bama also didn't initially offer upfront NIL, but that has changed this year and maybe into last year.

Seems kind of dumb if true. And they can only get away with it due to being on top, and probably not for much longer. Slip just a little and that strategy won't work anymore.

So not ever 5* recruit gets a NIL to go to UGA, but every 5* recruit at UGA ends up with a NIL deal and they probably have a decent idea what it will be before they commit.

People said the exact same thing last year after they lost all those players to the draft and they didn’t miss a beat this year. As long as they’re signing top 3 classes they will be the standard for college football. The level of player they’re recruiting is likely confident enough in their ability to make it to the NFL. So they’re likely willing to take 100k a year over 3-4 years to play there as opposed to making 150-200k a year to play at Miami, Texas, A&M, Oregon, etc

All irrelevant to what I said. It will work as long they can stay on top, slip just a little and they'll have to start offering NIL upfront like Bama has (if it's even true that UGA doesn't, which I doubt).

When are we gonna lock up a 5-star? DL, WR, whatever... I don't care. Close the deal and bring it. Let's get some smoke going on Rocky Top!

We signed Five 5 stars last recruiting class in 2023.
