'24 MO DL Williams Nwaneri (Mizzou commit)

No but his team looked awful in both bowl games when he played teams with some what equal talent. I'm not a Deion hater and I think he will do fine at Colorado and he did great things for Jackson St. There is nothing about him that makes me think a NFL team would want him to be a head coach.

Sure, not yet. But if he succeeds at Colorado and then a bigger program then who knows. I’m not saying he will.

And my point was he doesn’t have to win the same way at every stop. No coach would depend on out-talenting opponents in the NFL. Deion played in the NFL, pretty sure he knows that. And the caliber of coordinator he could attract in the NFL would obviously differ than what he has / had.

Couldn’t disagree more. You can hire top coordinators for Xs and Os. Deion would relate to the players in the NFL more than anyone. Whether or not he would win, I have no idea.

Excitement for team = excitement for fans = money for owners. And owners care about one thing: money.
I guess my primary counter-argument would be, name me one NFL HC who wasn't an excellent coordinator or Xs and Os coach thenselves prior to becoming an NFL HC. Deion is a personality, and he may prove his worth as a solid coach, but I think he's finally at a place where we will find out. As others have said, he's always had better talent. The NFL is a much more level playing field from that perspective for a lot of reasons.

Less recruiting. Less time on the road. Would make sense
You guys crack me up with all this Deion love. He has to prove he can actually COACH first. All he's proved so far is that he's a good recruiter, and that will only continue for so long if he doesn't prove that he can win at a high level. The NFL largely eliminates his primary strength - recruiting.

You’re getting cracked over your own comprehension issues then. Never said I was a Deion fan. The poster I responded to was talking about hypothetical success at Colorado. Who knows? He may get exposed coaching in a Power 5 conference. Until the season plays out, everything people are saying is speculation. Personally, I’m not worried about Deion with any recruits. Nor do I really care about his success or failure. I find both camps regarding Deion equally annoying.

He's been a head coach in Texas HS for 5 years, and then has been a HC at Jackson St for 3 years. 8 years in a head coach capacity.

Every coach something to prove. That's literally their job.

Actually, it was 4 years as a head coach in TX high school football followed by 4 years as an offensive coordinator in TX high school football. I agree with the fact that every coach has something to prove. That's what I'm suggesting. Let him actually prove it. Deion is one of the few new college head coaches that I've ever seen that a large percentage of people want to just assume he's going to be a great head coach. Many people say that's because he was one of the best NFL CB's of all time. However, history suggests that most NFL Hall of Fame players don't make particularly good head coaches.

So a PAC-12 Championship by year 3?

Fair point.

But if they do?
I’m in wait and see mode with Deion. Maybe he’ll be a great Div 1 head coach. Maybe he won’t be. Maybe he’ll win whatever conference Colorado is in during his 3rd year as head coach. Maybe he’ll do that, but the conference is so pathetic it still isn’t that impressive. I’m going to let it play out. If he becomes a great head coach, I’ll give him credit for it.

That's a fair assessment.

And this same approach needs to be taken
for coach Josh Heupel as well.

Still can’t believe it happened.
I just remember watching his offense and being amazed by how simple and effective the use of play-action on nearly every single play was. It was just that quarter-second blip that made everyone on defense think twice and it was seamlessly easy for the offense to utilize play after play.

Also remember being shocked how easily they ran for yards and always dove forward with their last step. It was like they were actually taught to find last second gaps and dive forward for 2 more yards. Meanwhile our guys were plowing into the nearest defender with their last desperation step and getting pushed backwards 😔.

Tbf they were 1-11 last season lol.

If they can win the PAC in just 3 years, that would be unreal.

But I'm also curious how he does. He was able to recruit some P5 level players to an FCS program. Makes things a lot easier.

But I'd lean towards him being fairly successful and jumping elsewhere in a few years.

Off the top of my head: Don Shula, Mike Ditka, Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells. Shula and Parcells were DC’s for two seasons apiece in Detroit and New York before landing their HC jobs, but they weren’t renowned for X’s and O’s prowess…more fundamentally disciplined.

Back to Williams.
That’s not how it works. Sure NIL plays a role for all kids but for this one, he has jived with the staff. Really clicked and that’s why TN currently has the momentum.
TN’s approach of family and development is what has made the surge. Nothing is finished as with all these visits, it’s a long way to go.

Those are maybe some fine examples, but I was speaking more so specifically to current NFL head coaches. The most recent of the four you mentioned came into the league as a HC 34 years ago and the game and hiring process has changed a lot in that time. My point was more that they there were few and far between, and that motivators aren't the primary source of head coaches in the NFL. Deion might make it. Hard to predict what someone with a billion dollar bank account and a $.10 football mind will do with their money when they fall in love with an idea. Al Davis hired Lane Kiffin, after all.

Dan Campbell is looking promising with Detroit.

John Harbaugh was a DB coach when he was hired by Baltimore. The only experience he had as a coordinator was special teams. I don’t think the Ravens hired him because of his X’s and O’s ability.
