'24 MO DL Williams Nwaneri (Mizzou commit)

John Harbaugh was a DB coach when he was hired by Baltimore. The only experience he had as a coordinator was special teams. I don’t think the Ravens hired him because of his X’s and O’s ability.
I don’t think Mike Vrabel was hired because of Xs and Os either. Was he a defensive coordinator? Yes. A good one? Not really.

Never seen this much hype for a guy that hasn’t coached above the Jackson State level though…. It’s time to slow down until he shows any semblance of being able to run a program.

Well he generates the hype bc of his larger than life personality. It’s also an intriguing storyline. But for sure nobody knows if he’ll be good or not

He's also black and shamelessly sells that to recruits. He made a very big deal out of his last job being at a HBCU.

Just pointing to what he's done.

Anyone can draw their own conclusions but I'm a guy who thinks there should be one set of rules for everyone.
What is that supposed to mean exactly? He's not the first black NCAA head coach, and definitely not the first coach to shamelessly sell something. It just usually happens behind closed doors. What is this different set of rules that he is being allowed to use? I'm not a Deion advocate, but your statement is ridiculous.

I like Deion, but he will fizzle out at colorado. 6 or 7 of his players have entered the transfer portal since the spring game. I don't pretend to know who was good and who was asked to leave, but I do know that 1 was expected to be the top wr. Any coach who announces their son as the starting qb before practice even starts is not going to be an elite coach at a top program. It's one thing to make a splash at a community college because you can attract a few big recruits with your name and be the big fish in a small pond. It's another to play every week against big time players. He will sell his name until he can't sell it anymore and I don't blame him a bit.

Let's say it were even possible to have a company that was a "white" company in the same way these schools are "black" schools. It clearly isn't but let's pretend the rules actually ARE the same. Now let's say that the hiring manager for this company shows up to recruit new employees making a big deal out of it being a "historically" and predominately white company... can we agree that would be racist?

First off, these schools have white students now. Second, they only exist in the first place because black students had nowhere else to go back in the day. They should be proud of their history and there's nothing wrong with them talking about it to any prospective student. To say that it's an advantage is a bit of mental gymnastics.

Also, he was recruiting against other HBCUs when he was at JSU...so they had that same "advantage". I do think he's probably going to flop at Colorado.

As long as there is one set of rules for everyone, no problem. But what would happen if someone publicly stated in this context that whites should be proud of their history?

PS- I know they have white students. Part of the reason I oppose their existence or at least their favorable treatment by government is that they are a legacy of racism... a time when blacks had to have a "separate school". Their existence isn't a cause for celebration but a remnant of injustice.

Where did I say they didn't? He played it up and did it openly. If you think any white leader could have gotten away with something similar then you are out of your mind. And until we stop accepting different rules for different skin tones... the problems will just continue to fester. You don't end racism by reinforcing the structures of racism regardless of who benefits at the moment.

There SHOULD be I agree.

But is everything a level playing field from birth for everybody? Another thing all together.

Would it be too much to ask to stick to the recruitment of this kid and quit with the racism discussion, Deion Sanders coaching evaluation, other BS not related to this kid or even Tennessee recruiting?

Nothing personal against anyone but it’s just not the place for a hot button topic that derails the whole purpose of the thread.

Deion offered Nwaneri. This happens when fertile, non-drone minds convene and converse. If all that was posted was who offered and who he commits to and/or signs with? Very dry, boring thread and Freak loses clicks to the AP wire.

A multi-page digression on whether “Coach Prime” will succeed or not is beyond the scope of a recruit thread. Mods regularly move or delete posts for less.
