I was glad to see the back of Bobo when he left, and I wasn't alone. We won the next 2 right after he left. His last team at UGA averaged 41.3 points per game which is better than they have averaged either of the last 2 years. Defense was their biggest issue most of the time he was there before. Best thing to hope for with UGA on offense is just to hope inexperience at QB gets them. There's always a chance of that when a team is depending on somebody who has never taken a meaningful snap, that's a lot more likely than Bobo not being able to deploy UGA level talent adequately. That’s a tad revisionist history…. First I. don’t remember anyone celebrating him leaving…..2nd…. They were averaging over 38 ppg and Chubb was averaging over 8 ypc and had close to 800 yards rushing until he got hurt after 2 Carrie’s against Tennessee.
I just don't get people acting like they hired Randy Sanders. He's not Monken but he did just fine the last time he had UGA talent. 41.3 ppg was good in 2014 and it's good now.It adds a little context when you realize that 5 of the losses were to teams coached by Derek Dooley and Butch Jones.
Again, what may get UGA on offense is inexperience at quarterback. Anytime you got a guy who hasn't taken meaningful snaps you never know how he'll react in pressure situations. Bennett always made plays when they needed them the last few years. That's going to be harder to replace than some people think. It's never plug and play at QB. Bobo is going to be adequate, especially with Kirby level defenses which are considerably better than the Martinez-Grantham units he worked with back then as well.Got any nuggets that point to his prowess at OC more recent than a decade ago?
I'm not saying he is more innovative or even that he is better. I'm just saying statically speaking he had the better season. That doesn't always translate to wins and losses. He will have a much better defense to fall back on and his offense will still pit up yards and points. Everyone acting like he sucks makes no sense whatsoever. Was it really better though? They lost to USC(lite), UF, and GaTech. They had to have the first teamers still playing late in games and played multiple close games that they won. With all that, your still talking about 2014 UGA scoring a whopping 3 more total points stretched over 15 games to do a per game average. I get that last year's team had a much better defense, but that offense could have scored a lot more points if the coaches decided to do so. Take 2022 Ohio St. for example. They still had starters playing mid way though the fourth quarter in multiple blowouts. Kirby chose not to do that. I'm no UGA fanboy, but Monken was much more innovative than Bobo.
True but as I said he will have more firepower across the board. Not just running backs. In 2014 they had a HEAVY rushing attack because they had 4 NFL caliber RBs on the roster. They only averaged 199 yds through the air. Todd Monken is definitely a better OC and playcaller than Bobo. Most UGA fans even agree and don’t really want Bobo.
I don't think Bobo sucks. I think most feel that he isn't a championship coordinator (including Georgia fans). I personally, don't know that it matters because their success has been predicated on defensive dominance.I'm not saying he is more innovative or even that he is better. Most UGA fans are idiots. They are seriously probably the least football knowledgeable fan base in the SEC. They always go for ratings over their eyes. Most of them wanted J.T. Daniels at quarterback even after Bennett won a national championship. Bennett of course is now with the Rams and Daniels is now with Rice.In 2014 they had a HEAVY rushing attack because they had 4 NFL caliber RBs on the roster. I mean I hope he isn't successful and destroys thier run but I don't think that's likely. Like you said they are dominant on defense.I don't think Bobo sucks. Okay so they had a steller running back room. Who did they have at qb or wide receiver? My point is that he will have more firepower across the board this go around and a much better defense to fall back on.
His leaving coincided with the good Dobb years…. We finally had decent rams to compete with…. I don’t think Bobo sucks but I would much rather Georgia have brought in an old school coach than an innovative coach… Kind of similar to Chaney,…. Georgia will be successful bc of their immense talent but we need any advantage we can get.I was glad to see the back of Bobo when he left, and I wasn't alone. We won the next 2 right after he left. Wish we played them earlier in the year, but hopefully being one of 2 real road games this year the stadium can get to the QBAgain, what may get UGA on offense is inexperience at quarterback. Young at Joseph's age was working at dollar general while Joseph's was getting sacks in SEC as an underweight true freshman.Young was good his first year too. Just had the eligibility thing which sidelined him for a bit and then he had to work into a rhythm mid season
Are you sure that murray was qb in 2014?Oh just some guy named Aaron Murray who has the most career TDs in SEC history. At WR they had Chris Conley and Malcolm Mitchell and some guy named AJ Green.
To act like they have more talent on offense now than back then is laughable. Right now they have Brock Bowers and no one else of note. Yes they still have a stable of RBs but nothing near what they had under Bobo the first time around. They might have a better OL but they have a question mark at QB.
