More Climate BS...

The GOP is begrudgingly starting to acknowledge the science, but their response is "So what, I'll just buy more sunscreen and get a better AC." They conveniently ignore the externalities that we're starting to see (extreme weather-related damage; climate migrants) -- and will see even more of in the future.
Maybe you can shed some light. How is our current climate change different to historical natural change, and how exactly has human activity caused or accelerated the current warming trend? What have we tweaked and what's the cause and effect chain?

So you don't know.
Anyone else?
It's a sincere question. I hear a whole lot of 'we've changed the climate and we must take radical action to save the world'. But I can find nothing that really shows how we've done that to start with, then how much effect the proposed solutions will have and the comparative costs and benefits of status quo and available alternatives.
If we're making such massive changes it seems more than prudent to know the details.

Climate migrants?
I thought they were seeking asylum?

Wait.

Is it… climate asylum?

Is there really any question about whether there's a cabal going on?

That's always one of the evils of scientist vs engineer. Scientists are often associated with academia and are all about academic credentials, and they are often a snobbish klan dealing in "research" and publishing for reputations and funding. As one of my engineering profs pointed out years ago, there's a big gap between that work and any application. Often the theoretical work never makes it to practical use - sometimes because there just is no practical use. Any knowledge man acquires is useful, but only that with real application is absolutely beneficial. Often in the engineering field we find interesting events and wind up trying to find whether there had ever been any prior scientific investigation to explain it. Some of that is engineers are working toward a solution to a problem and don't have the time or resources to ponder, pontificate, and publish like "scientists".

Often the gulf between the two disciplines probably exists because the two don't tend to respect or have much confidence in the other. As an engineer, my view of climate scientists falls pretty much in line with what I would think of alchemists ... pretty worthless people dishonestly stirring up crap for profit.

Let's say a hurricane is on the way. What's productive? Writing papers theorizing on the weather and how one day man might change it, or making preparations to minimize the impact? This kind of "man-made" thinking ranks right up there with pagan religions and sacrifices to fire gods to keep the volcano at bay. The climate "scientists" are no different from the priests who promised to keep a volcano quiet ... and when it didn't work demanded more sacrifices to appease the gods.

She might even bring you along to try next time...

Speaking of which. I think SSC and I are going to the Vols game here next year. We should set something up.

You guys gonna invite McDad to the gathering? Thinking of doing it at Dink's?
