More Important Win: Florida or Bama?

Honestly as great as it would be to beat Alabama, I think we need to beat Florida if we want to come out of the shadows.

Bama. It would be great if they wore their home colors in Neyland for it as well.

He didn't say biggest rival, he said most important win. Florida is always the more important game to win because they are a division rival.

I'll go out on a limb here and say the division isn't going to happen this year for the Vols. Being fairly certain of that a win against Bama would be more important. I see your point though.

To answer the question I would say Florida. I do hate them the most but my reason is because they are in our path to the SEC East crown & SEC Championship game. If we lose to Alabama in the regular season we may have another chance of beating them in the SEC Championship game if both teams reached. Both are without a doubt very important.
W over Alabama - National respect, positive exposure, recruiting advantage & if we win the East we possibly get another shot at beating them.
W over Florida - East rival, recruiting advantage, positive exposure & game ahead of them in the East.
Perfect scenario would be winning the regular season games against Alabama & Florida. Then beating Alabama in the SEC Championship game.

My heart says bama, but my head says Florida. We knock off the gators, and all of a sudden we are a contender in the east.

I'd take a win over Florida and respectable loss to bama. If it means being embarrassed the way we were in Neyland in dools last year against bama, than I can't handle that.

Either way, we can't get completely outclassed be either of them in our own stadium. I'd take a win with either and a respectable loss with the other if need be.

I would rather beat Bama, but Florida is more important. Division game and longer losing streak.

For this year, which is the more important win? Now, don't get me wrong, I fully realize that Bama would be the bigger and more unexpected win. However, they have been beating everyone and will likely continue to do so for a while. People don't see that as an even match and don't expect us to win that one any time soon. Other than a few years with Tebow, they don't hover around the top three in the nation every year like Bama does either. Florida, though, seems to always be the monkey on Tennessee's back. Florida has beaten us nine years in a row with different coaches. Bama has beaten us seven years in a row with the same coach. People perceive Saban as the mastermind that he is, but I think they see Florida as a school we just can't ever seem to beat or get the better of. We completely owned Bama from 1995 to 2006, losing only once. Florida has beaten us 22 out of the last 28 times we have played them. I think Florida is the more important win for this season. What say you, VolNation?

From an emotional viewpoint, the Alabama game was and is the big game.

From a conference division perspective, Florida (and, for that matter, Georgia and South Carolina) are MORE IMPORTANT with regard to getting to Atlanta.

Both, usually if we beat uf we beat the bama in the season. rarely do we only beat bama.

We are not ready for little nicks bunch of NFL players yet, but we can beat the gators at our house, but long term we got to kicks little nicks azz and make him rethink that 100 mills left on the table at the little ut, and make him wish he took it.

Swamp Lizzards being in the east has nothing to do with the importance of the game.

Is it likely we'll win the east? No. Possible yes, likely, no. So beating Fla. will ONLY result in us knocking on the door, and we'll have the recognition of having beat the lizzards on what may be the start of an upswing after last years debacle for them.

However, beating Bama would mean much more, MUCH MORE, for UT in terms of national recognition, Butch Jones & Co. as game day coaches who CAN 'Get 'er Done', and recruiting. Besides, if we can beat Bama, we damn sure can cut the tail offa buncha swamp lizzards!

I hope WE ARE the reason Muschamp loses his job. Why should we wait till 15 or 16 to run him off. Let's beat them this year, get his arse fired, then they can live in the coaching carousel purgatory we've been in for the past 5 years.:salute:

This is a rational post IMO. We take what we can get. The guys that have the rationale of "let's lose to Florida to help Muschamp keep his job" kinda confuse me. On one hand I get the idea of thinking Muschamp is not a good coach and we'd like to keep a bad coach at Florida. On the other, much more valid hand, if we lose to them this year, Muschamp will be 4-0 vs UT and that loss will have hurt our chances to have a successful season. IMHO we shouldn't overthink this. Hope and pray we beat Florida and let the Muschamp/Florida head coach cards fall where they may.

Florida has beaten us 9 years in a row, they are in the East, and they are not nearly the powerhouse that Alabama is right now. We definitely, absolutely, positively MUST win that game, especially if we're wanting to go Bowling, and as someone else said, come out of the shadows. I'd LOVE to beat Alabama (too), and that would be the biggest win for our program in years, despite USCjr last year. Regardless, the question was 'More important game?' and for the 2014 season, that has to be Florida.

Of course it would be awesome as fans to beat bama . but I think nationally ESPN ( because we all know they hate us ) would spin it as they played bad or we just pulled a upset if we beat Florida I beleave they would be talking about how we are on the rise and the foundation is being played thus for better for recruiting and maybie coat Florida a head football coach which could set then back and turn the tide for us
