Spinal cord injury. I got a nice 6 week stay at the Hospital Inn and on top of all the lovely pain, laying in bed and rehabbing, I also had a broken jaw and it was wired shut so I only got soup, juice and carnation instant breakfast. Winning.

Having two pins pulled out of my hand with a shot of Novocaine, vise grips, and the doctors knee holding my hand down.

1) Shoulder reconstruction surgery without the nerve block. Five days post-op I developed PEs (pulmonary embolism) in both lungs. Every time I tried to take a breath, it was like being stabbed. Which would cause me to jerk. Which would cause my shoulder to move. Which would cause me to breath sharply. Rinse repeat. Was stupid and tried to tough it out. Didn't go to the hospital for nearly a full day. Due to nurse incompetence (long story), I ended up going nearly 12 hours without any pain medication.

2) Gout

3) Worst cup shot I ever took as a catcher. Accidentally wore boxers instead of boxer briefs on a gameday - when I set up for an outside fastball, the boys shifted a bit. Foul ball hits the cup, I thought one of them was split in two. Fortunately, it wasn't.

4) The year after shoulder surgery and blood clots, I attempted to play through a ruptured UCL while dealing with what ended up being double pneumonia.

5) Accidentally drinking a very large swig of Cheer laundry detergent (it was in a Pepto bottle - yet another long story) during the first inning of a baseball game in which I had to play the rest of the game due to being the only available catcher on the roster.

6) An errant swing in an indoor practice led to a wood bat being broken over my head. Not surprisingly, my memory is a little fuzzy on this one, but it felt exactly like you would think.

Esophageal spasms - If you don't know what these are or feel like you'll think you're having a heart attack. An extremely painful one.

Had a stomach bug one time or maybe it was just bad diarrhea but I woke up from a dead sleep one night, screaming from unimaginable abdominal pain. Felt like something was crawling around inside my intestines shredding them.

I had one once. Took some medicine right before I went to bed, but it didn't go all the way down. Esophagus spent the entire night trying to get the stuff down and cramped up. Definitely felt like a heart attack. Really freaked me out.

It was lower on the pain scale than kidney stones.

Tossup between my 2nd kidney stone, and swallowing an antibiotic on an empty stomach (felt like my stomach was literally imploding)

3rd would be a root canal as a kid, before dental surgery had come as far as it has

I have two herniated discs and the doc said I should wait a few years to have the surgery because they are updating the technology...or something like that.
I bought myself an inversion table and it is the tits.
I haven't healed myself for real, like I still can't do any cardio besides an elliptical, but I don't have blinding pain anymore unless I've done something stupid.

I would have the surgery now honestly. Its only about a 2 inch incesion and you are up walking around an hour after surgery. I was in the hospital over night and thats it. Im not sure about your situation but my disc was pushing on my sciatic nerve so I had severe leg pain along with back pain. I couldnt work, couldn't sleep, couldn't sit down. I remember trips to the doctor where I had to bite down on my seat belt the entire way the pain was so intense. The moment he saw my MRI he wanted me in surgery the next day. Those were the worst weeks of my life.

Had my nose cauterized a few years ago because I was getting at least one bad nosebleed every day.
The cauterization didn't hurt THAT bad, but what it felt like when they did it, I felt that exact feeling for seven full days. That feeling didn't go away for a moment.
It felt exactly like that split-second before you sneeze. Doesn't hurt THAT bad, but imagine that feeling not going away for an entire week.

I had a bad car wreck and had to have a couple of surgeries. One was my nose from it getting smashed and broken. The Dr told me I would have scabs and to pick them with tweezers. I had a tough one that wouldn't come out so I finally got a good hold and yamked it good. It wasn't a scab, but the end of the stitches, my nose poured blood and I had to get it cauterized in the er. Fun fun.

pancreatitis. No cure. Just manage with diauldid. You just have to let it run its course. Could be a few days, could be a few weeks. Could die.

I'd take kidney stones over pancreatitis. Any. Day.

Had that happen. The worst part for me was before the cauterization, the doctor stuck a scope so far up my nose I was waiting for it to go through the top of my skull

When a jackass doctor attempted to pop a dislocated wrist back into place without any local anesthetic.

Uggh doctor has recommend me to have mine remove he has told me this two years in a row and I'm just chicken Shi to bout it.. Esp after hearing horror stories..

Do it! You'll be glad you did. I used to get 4-6 throat/sinus infections yearly that required antibiotics. This year was the first since 2010 when I had the surgery that I had to Gert an antibiotic. Much more energy (from sleeping better). I am kicking myself for not doing it years ago. I even have joked with my parents that it was their fault for all my ailments for not having then yanked when I was a child. Seriously get it done. The week or two of hell will be well worth the long term health improvements you'll experience.

Lyme Disease

Ha, me too.

I'll also add in cutting through my index finger lengthwise from the tip down to the first knuckle with a utility knife. The cut itself didn't actually hurt that bad because it was with a razor blade. The bad part was wrapping it, trying to finishing out my work day with it constantly opening back up, and then giving up and having to drive 45 minutes back home and then to a doctor. Also the doctor didn't numb it very well, so I could feel everything for my last three stitches.

Just curious, did they not try cocaine before cauterizing?

Woke up one night with really bad abdominal pains. Hurt so bad that I stood up on the side of the bed and went immediately to the floor and curled into a ball. It was just really bad diarrhea, but man my intestines felt like a war zone.

Another thing that I'm sure many on here have experienced is bad acid reflux. Waking up coughing in the middle of the night and having the back of your throat feeling like hot grease is never fun. I'm usually up no less than an hour waiting on the burning sensation to go away.

Fractured tibia, Taurus, calcaneus, rodeo injury riding bareback Broncos

Wrecked my Harley, road rash on arms, back, legs , chest and face, took 6 months to recover

Cornea repair surgery, actually the recovery hurt worse than injury which was no pain at all, but the headaches and eye muscles after all the stretching equipment was horrible.
