Movies you've seen recently II

Knock At The Cabin 6/10. Although it's not his best work, it's still classic M. Night Shyamalan. If you're a fan of his movies, you'll like it. I just expected a little more with the ending.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - 7/10. It was actually a little better than I was expecting. I liked the Namor introduction and I knew next to nothing about the character so I didn't mind any changes to his backstory. Also Tenoch Huerta is awesome in Narcos: Mexico. But the movie is really feeling the loss of Chadwick Boseman and the character of T'Challa. I understand why they did what they did, but I still disagree with them killing off the character and not recasting him.

Skinamarink: 3/10
I knew going in that all the “scariest movie in years” crap was hype, but I thought maybe it would be decent. It’s really bad. It’s mostly just shots of walls/doorways, light fixtures. Tries to be unsettling atmospherically, but it just didn’t work for me. Quite boring.

Agree. As much as I prefer they didn't kill him off, I enjoyed this movie better than the first.

The Pale Blue Eye - 6/10. It was interesting up until a point but then the last 45 minutes or so just kind of got boring with the “reveal” that you could see a mile away.

The Alpinist 9/10 been meaning to watch it for a while. Wow. What a story. Those dudes are just madmen. Made me want to go to Patagonia even more.

Elvis - 6/10. I really hate to say this, but Tom Hanks was terrible in this movie. It was a massive miscast and with the bad makeup and his weird accent, it was just laughably bad. It was like Mike Myers dressing up like Fat Bastard but talking like Goldmember. Austin Butler is great and deserves the Oscar nom. Overall I didn't care for the style of the film either; it was just odd.

Tom Hanks was god awful I think everyone agrees. Baz Luhrman directed, if you see what else he has done you will see that stye. The juxtaposition when Elvis is a child between the church song and the bar music...gave me chills it was so cool.

I think it was more having Hanks narrate just made it worse for me.

Tom Hanks got nominated for 2 Razzies this year. He's just cashing checks at this point.

In 2019-2020 he had some solid movies, A Beautiful Day in tne Neighborhood, Greyhound, and News of the World. I didn't see Finch so I couldn't tell you, but yeah 2022 was a rough one for him.

Wakanda Forever was disappointing. Some really cool components to the movie, but ultimately I didn't like the fish people, Namor, their origin story, how they lived, the multiple ironman suits and the inventor, etc. Just so dumb. So vibranium turns you into a water dweller when you drink it? Stfu. This may all be accurate to Marvel comics but it's stupid.

Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris - 7.5/10 - I saw this was nominated for an Oscar and it was on Peacock and decided what the heck. This was a nice little British movie with a rather simple premise: a British widow wants an expensive French dress and goes and get it. Usually not one I'd watch but I was pleasantly surprised.

I saw it, was expecting a little more from it but it wasn’t bad.
If you enjoy watching British films, I would recommend “Finding Your Feet”.

Watched The Art of Racing in the Rain the other day. Enjoyed it. Teared up a couple of times. Good movie, I don't think Kevin Costner has ever done a bad one.
