Muschamp fired

A really interesting take on the firing from a Texas fan, noting the lessons to be learned from it. Some parallels with our situation as well, particularly the importance of finding the right quarterback. Also some great shots at Urban Meyer (sample):

Urban Meyer's Legacy. Urban Meyer is probably the best coach in college football. He's also an amoral mercenary, if not an outright charlatan, when he and the media start peddling his St. Urban shtick. A Bill McCartney redux. He quit Florida when he fully realized the number of ferals, mental midgets, sociopaths and well, actual murderers (alleged), he'd assembled in Gainesville. Coaching MS-13 isn't much fun. So he quit to concentrate on family and recover from stress (he created for himself - that part is always omitted). Only to immediately take the next top ten job where he could start anew while painting himself as Ohio State's reformer. Brilliant.

Relevant to what Butch inherited:

Takeaway? If you ever see your OL systematically depleting from simple neglect, fire everyone immediately. I can tell you what's coming. And the clean-up is long and ugly.

This is Graham we are talking about. He signed an extension at Tulsa the same week he bolted for next gig. He may be putting it out there for a pay raise.

He probably called and inquired about the job at halftime last night. Hence the 2nd half meltdown vs OSU. His nomadic nature should worry any A.D.

That would be bad for us because Dooley beat up on Butch that one time they faced each other. We need Gators to hire someone Butch used to beat back when he was at Central Michigan.

To be fair if you reverse coaches that game we still win and probably in even more dominant fashion.

HG who can recruit Miami for us?

There's no candidate with the pedigree of Charlie Strong but Dana and Rich Rod have a long history of getting troubled or lesser ranked kids out of Dade and Broward.

Keeping a guy like TRob on staff will be valuable.

My first calls go to Mario Cristabol and Mike Barrow.

The next HC will not be a coordinator unless previously been a HC.

Maybe so.

Then again, don't be surprised if the the first few choices turn UF down, forcing Foley to go the route of an OC, with our without previous HC experience.

Foley's been known to make good hires and even if it's not a splash hire, he'll do the the best he can for the university.

Brett McMurphy just said neither Mullen nor Rich Rod will be considered for the job.

I never thought I'd see a UF coach get fired in a year in which he beat both UT and UGA. Or one that went 4-0 against UT. That tells you just how bad UT has been. Florida looks at us the way we look at Kentucky. Automatic win.

I have to admit, I'm terrified that they may be able to land Patterson.

I strongly doubt that. Getting TCU into the Big XII Minus 2 affords him the opportunity to regularly compete for a playoff spot without going through the SEC meat grinder. Plus he has built up practically infinite job security at this point in Fort Worth.

alot of good coaches out there that uf would be an upgrade for imo

TCU is a pretty good gig. Especially with them in a Power 5 conference. I'd be surprised if Patterson ever leaves.
