My buddy has DM'ed the Rivals writer for La Tech (interesting response)

I think he is a better coach than Dooley but I'd say no. I didn't realize it but he has coached at Kentucky before though.

This move is Dave Hart trying to get the required amount of interviews done.

No it's not. Not saying he has a good shot at all, but you seriously think Dave Hart can't find 4 serious candidates to interview?

Sonny Dykes and the Air Raid offense is not the answer. This season just proves that you have to run the ball and play defense to win in the SEC. We had the 2nd best offense in school history but only won 5 games because we were a pass first team who did not play defense.

I think the guy's a good coach but hiring another LT coach would be a PR disaster. UT can do much better.

The city of Knoxville will be set ablaze if this happens....will make Sherman's torching of Atlanta look like a....less significant fire (I couldn't come up with anything witty...)

Why? Considering nearly everyone on this board practically jumped to support the hire of Dooley and to make excuses for hiring a guy coming off a 4-8 record in the WAC. Instead, we get a guy who has taken a lousy mid major into the top 25 and you dudes want to burn stuff then? Oh Vol fans, I'll never understand the lot of you.

I was suggesting that there may or may not have been a deal in place with someone to begin with, and this is Dave Hart going through the motions.

We could do alot worse than...

Unfortunately, "we could do a lot worse than" or "he is better than Dooley" seems to be the new battle cry for Vol fans regarding this coaching search.

Not surprising, considering all the pride we take in moral victories now.

you are joking right?

Nope. What about his record doesn't say "proven winner"? I'd take Dykes over any of the retreads (Tuberville, Davis, Cutcliffe, etc.) being bandied about. History shows that hiring a guy who has won regularly in the mid major level works out better than hiring a guy who has previously been fired from a major program.

22-14 at La Tech with an 0-1 bowl record doesn't scream proven winner to me.

You misunderstand me. What I mean is, I feel Dykes has a better chance of competing for championships in the SEC at this stage of his career than Tuberville or Butch Davis or alot of the old guy names that get thrown about. I don't know why you guys hate him so much. His record and his past coaching accomplishments make him similar to Sumlin. The guy has had success everywhere he's been. I don't know why everyone is opposed to that (and yet so few here were opposed to hiring a 4-8 coach, when that went down).

I just wonder who we will be available to hire in Dec. of 2015...

Dooley got the job because no one else wanted it. Kiffin left two weeks before NSD and we had NCAA sanctions loaming of which the penalities at the time were unknown. I supported Dooley because that was who we hired and he deserved a shot. I certainly was not happy that was who we hired but I understood. I'll be pissed if we hire another nobody for a coach but I will support him until his performance says otherwise.

He took over a tough situation. The guy before him left right before signing day. His teams have improved every year he has been there. His record is far more impressive than Al Golden's or Willie Taggart's or others who have supposedly "turned around" bad programs and whose names get brought up alot on here.

Really? How did you make the determination that no one else wanted it? You were involved in the search? You spoke to the candidates? You know how much money they were offered and what the terms were? And you're certain that the job had already been offered to every head coach with a winning record before it got offered to Dooley? Cool. I'd be interested to hear more about what Sumlin said when he turned us down.

His same Air Raid offense has already been in the SEC. It didn't fare well for his mentor.

But i would take him over those two names mentioned.
