'25 NC OT David Sanders (Tennessee)

I’m not saying freshman OLineman have never started or can’t start and be decent.

My point was that I hoped with our recent OL recruiting - guys like Bennett Warren and Satterwhite and Perry and Umarov, etc, that our OL was in a good enough spot where we didn’t have to rely on a true freshman.

Some of the OL who have started here as freshman did so out of necessity. I’m hoping that isn’t the case now
‘25 season will definitely be Elarbee’s make or break year as we are replacing 4/5 of the starters + DD and Lampley. Im also assuming Karic won’t be back until his waiver is officially granted.

You don't go through such a tough recruiting battle to land the nation's top OT just to move him to guard. He may not start, but he'll stay at tackle...probably will make a push to start at RT.

It's not uncommon for a younger tackle to start at guard and move out to tackle later.

You're right when it comes to the pre-NIL and transfer portal days or maybe lower rated players now. With the demands players have these days and how much he's getting paid in NIL, I'm betting he and the coaching staff are fully expecting him to make a run at that RT spot.

Playing G is a much easier transition from HS to college. Wanya Morris started at LT his freshman year and he sucked, even though he played in one of the most competitive HS divisions in he country. Wanya was also a top 10 OT recruit. Darnell Wright too. Same situation. Trey Smith started at G even though he was the #1 tackle out of HS. Granted, he fits well at G obviously, but the point remains.

Not to mention, RT and LT are completely different positions. Playing LG still would play to his strengths on that side, give him PT and ease the transition, which is already going to be difficult

Probably make a run, but if he's such a person that he'd be upset by playing inside for one year while his body and mind mature to SEC starter level at tackle, I'd be disappointed.

It's a different era. I agree with you on the thought that playing guard could be a good start for him should he not be one of those elite guys that can step in and start at RT, but I think it's unlikely you'll see that from such a coveted OT prospect.

Unless I’m missing something, Warren is behind Perry at RT.
Any tackle can play guard for the most part.
Kind of like any CB can play Safety.

I think if he wants to get on the field he may be open to it.

I 100% think Sanders will the starter at RT.

Where is the Perry is in front of Warren coming from? This has been mentioned alot. The VQ guys?
I was basing it on the fact that Perry played vs Vandy instead of Warren, but upon further review it looks like Warren had already played in 4 games. Playing against Vandy would have burned his redshirt. The Vandy game was Perry's 4th game.

Could see something like Perry/Warren at RG, Sanders at RT if we don't get a RG in the portal.

LT Lance Heard 6’6 330 (Jr)
LG Bennett Warren 6’7 340 (So)
C William Satterwhite 6’3 300 (So)
RG Wendell Moe 6’3 340 (Jr)
RT David Sanders 6’5 305 (Fr)

My projection:

LT Lance Heard 6’6 330 (Jr), Larry Johnson 6’7” 348 (RSJr)
LG Andrej Karic 6’6” 314 (RSSr), Gage Ginther 6’5” 310 (RSFr)
C William Satterwhite 6’3 300 (RSFr), Max Anderson 6’5” 311 (RSFr)
RG Wendell Moe 6’3 340 (Jr), Sham Umarov 6’7” 330 (RSSo)
RT Jesse Perry 6’6” 310 (RSFr), David Sanders 6’5 305 (Fr), Bennett Warren 6’7 340 (So)

The thing I like most about this group is not just that they are young and talented, but the depth.

Also, just FYI, but Satterwhite got a redshirt this year. And I think Karic will get his medical redshirt for 2023. The NCAA has been handing those out like candy.

This is really close to how I see it too. Hopefully J Heard mixed in somewhere as well. I see a lot of quality depth there and would be surprised if a lot of those guys don’t get significant playing time.

Back before the season started, he was the camp surprise. Blank slate after a year of S&C/development. But another testament to nerd stars fronting inexact pop science.
