Think about, those dudes are RS Soph/JR and should be hitting strides as starters. Have either played any meaningful snaps? I'm asking, as I don't know. Let's assume Umarov starts, and stays healthy. Then let's assume Bussell plays in 2025, that's 2 players out of 1 class that have done anything.
Lang is gone.
Johnson aint playing.
That aint gonna cut it. Hope we can find some porthole help, at G.
Maybe someone in this 25 class can help out?
We also had very little talent (solid competition for starting positions) on our offensive line when those guys started as true freshman.Playing G is a much easier transition from HS to college. Wanya Morris started at LT his freshman year and he sucked, even though he played in one of the most competitive HS divisions in he country. Wanya was also a top 10 OT recruit. Darnell Wright too. Same situation. Trey Smith started at G even though he was the #1 tackle out of HS. Granted, he fits well at G obviously, but the point remains.
Not to mention, RT and LT are completely different positions. Playing LG still would play to his strengths on that side, give him PT and ease the transition, which is already going to be difficult
That’s correct, and now we have some depth there so that takes away the NEED for him to start. Boo was needed at star this year after Thomas got hurt. We don’t need Sanders to take Heard’s spot at LT, and we have at least 3 guys here currently that are already physically ready to play right tackle at the college level. We also had very little talent (solid competition for starting positions) on our offensive line when those guys started as true freshman.
Your first sentence is no revelation to me. That was my point in making my post. That’s correct, and now we have some depth there so that takes away the NEED for him to start. Sanders said himself that he stayed lean so that the college S&C could add the weight how and where he needed it the right way. Giving this kid 8 months to put on 40 healthy pounds isn’t impossible but it’s also not necessarily needed
