NCAA BBall POY Thread

Oh well wow, if draft express says so...

Please note well how often these goofy sites change, and note further how frequently they change the days before the draft proper. Then read between those lines.

But ya, it is worth noting that there are some dumb GMs out there, hence their high drafting slot, so maybe someone will take him that high.

Also didnt I say at least 10 guys would pan out better? does that site you list not put him right at 10? Convincing.

That would be in an important stat. Nobody can help that Davidson plays in a crap conference, but at least tries to schedule good teams OOC.

an argument also lobbed at Memphis quite often, and misplaced in my opinion.

Last time I checked, the game is basketball. I could give a damn less who would win Scholar's Bowl.

Last time I checked, the NCAA POY award is for college basketball. Which requires that you attend and pass college courses while playing for said institution.

But why does that have to do with Davidson's entrance criteria or griffin living up to them?

the hypothetical was raised - what would harden or griffin do if they played on the same team that curry plays on? what if they got to play with the same players curry does, against the same opponents? And I pointed out the reality (hat's favorite word) that it's unlikely either of those guys would qualify to play on that team.

perhaps a better analogy would be if they played for a Memphis team that gave them a steady diet of Rice, East Carolina and Marshall.

Ummm, no, he's not.

Ummm, yes, he is. Don't trust listings, they're laughably fraudulent.

He's still undersized no matter where he lands in that inch area, and if you really think a blake griffin or a james harden didnt attend davidson b/c they were worried about grades, you show a strange sense of understanding about ncaa basketball.

You don't get extra points for your GPA.

the memphis analogy doesnt hold because C-USA is about 10 times the conference, competition-wise, that Southern is.

THere's about 20 conferences better in fact, if not more.

I stood next to the guy. I'm 6'0". He's 3 inches taller than I am. but you chose to make a point about it, so please, enlighten me with your first-hand knowledge of his height.

there are a host of players davidson can't go after b/c they wouldn't be admitted. and then from the pool they can choose, they compete with bigger, more prosperous, more exposed schools like duke, stanford, wake, unc, uva, texas, cal.

conventional wisdom on this board chooses to dismiss the accomplishments of a program in such a situation. I choose to applaud them, just like I applaud the accomplishments of Mssrs. Griffin and Harden and their teams.

it's not an analogy. it's a fact. memphis gets dinged every year by nay-sayers who believe they get a free pass through conference-USA. That's why they won't be on the same level as Duke, UNC, UCLA, Kansas until they get out of that conference and into a more competitive one.

I'm pretty confident Harden and Griffin could get into Chattanooga. Last time I checked, they get to play the same dreck Davidson does.

I'm stunned to see a Davidson fan have trouble with reading comprehension. I never said anything about Griffin or Harden playing at Davidson. I just asked what would happen if they got to play Southern Conference garbage consistently.

Yeah, because being in the PCAA and the Big West just killed UNLV under Tark.

Fine - let's imagine he played for UTC. So how do you think Griffin would fare playing with the current crop of UTC teammates and going up against the likes of Kansas, UNC, Duke, UCLA, and Purdue? Think he might see a bit of a dip in his FG%?

It would dip, not fall off a cliff. He would also be scoring about 45 for those squads with 25 boards.

Not a substantial one.

How many games has Tark coached there in the last 17 years?

irrelevant. we're talking about the program, not the coach.

Until a team like UNLV or Memphis experiences sustained success on a very high level, the perception that they play in inferior conferences (like Utah in football) will prevent them from joining the established elite.
