I don't know how a team can implode so badly that it went 9-3 last year and 0-12 this year, but Central Florida managed it somehow.
Looking at the new coaching hires, the one that intrigues me most thus far is Scott Frost, former offensive coordinator at Oregon, and now head coach at Central Florida.
His name will be familiar to Vol fans over 40. He played QB for Tom Osborne's undefeated Nebraska team that beat us 42-17 in the 1997 Orange Bowl, which was also Peyton's last game in a Vol uniform and Osborne's last game as a coach.
Frost played six years in the NFL, being coached by the likes of Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick, and Jon Gruden. At Oregon, he learned from Chip Kelly. So, he has quite the coaching pedigree. And he coached a Heisman winner in Mariota.
His name was in discussion last year for Nebraska's head coaching job, and it seems like better teams than UCF would be knocking on his door. And that is what intrigues me--why UCF?
I have no idea if he will turn out to be a home run hire, but it would not surprise me if he is. Where better to get the kind of recruits to run an offense like Oregon's than Florida?
it reminds me of the major applewhite stuff when he was the OC at TX. he was the next big thing, and i don't even know what he's doing now?
i think it's probably a good move for Frost, there's no where to go but up, and it give him a chance to build a resume as an HC for when bigger jobs open again in the future.
the big dominos haven't started to fall yet.
going to be interesting to see what happens at Bama. rumors floating around that Kiffin could go with Smart to UGA in same capacity, or be a HC at one of the current openings.
as much as we're awed by the HC's moving around, the real dominoes are going to be all the assistants that move around.
i know this...you don't want to be left scrambling after the dust settles.
Don't want to see Kiffin as OC at Georgia....
itd virtually be no different than what we're experiencing at Bama?
but, in the end, i don't see Kiffin taking a lateral move.
i wonder if he's being considered for any of these jobs.
he could stay in the SEC at USC or MO. but i haven't heard his name anywhere near those two searches.
and from what i hear, USCe's search is going up in flames.
to me, Miami made the most sense for Kiffin.
maybe UVA? who knows.

Kiffin is the luckiest SOB in the industry. He could fall into a bucket of d!cks and come out with a tit in his mouth.
I am willing to bet he's hedging his bets on Bama winning the title, 4-6 coaches leaving with Smart and other opportunities, Saban retiring. I mean who is the legitimate shortlist if Bama opens up? Brian Kelly? Dantonio? Regardless, Kiffin would be on that list. Knowing that bastard, he stays put and could wind up with the job.
If Dabo wins this year I think he immediately jumps to the top of the Saban replacement list. He's likely near the top already.
If Saban retired and I were Bama, David Shaw would be at the top of the list. Runs a Pro Set offense and his teams generally plays solid defense. I know he is a West Coast guy and may be hesitant to such a move but Bama could throw the $$$$ at him. I would hope they would hire Dabo instead, however.
if he's going to split this would be the year to do it.. lots of coaches seem to change jobs when a senior qb graduates... he wont be in this position this time next year
