NCAA Open Jobs Thread

Is this the way to interview for a job?

Illinois: After a loss to Ohio State, interim head coach Bill Cubit told reporters, “Do I think I’m the guy? You bet I do. If (the administration) can’t see it, there’s not much I can do.” The Illini are 5-5 and finish with games at Minnesota and vs. Northwestern.

Not an NCAA job but I think Sean Payton may soon be out the door in NO -- I wonder if he would be a fit for a college program

.
Willie is solid but he ain't Strong or Shannon when it comes to SFla kids.

He's "them" to the Hillsborough/Pinellas/Manatee kids. I'm saying if he can be somewhat as effective as them in Broward and Dade Co. he'd have I-4 south on lockdown. He's not yet had the type of program to sell to the top tier kids. He did an awesome job of bringing the fringe talent to Bowling Green, KY of all places. Anytime you can get a Bradenton kid to BG, KY you've done something lol.

Why would he leave PSU, a top 10 program, historically, to return to a mediocre college program? Does he want out of Houston already that badly?

could be he is unhappy with lack of decision making

Throughout a difficult second year for Texans coach Bill O’Brien, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle repeatedly has said on PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio that owner Bob McNair won’t fire O’Brien after the season.

But maybe O’Brien will decide to walk away. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that O’Brien is interested in the vacancy at the University of Maryland.

O’Brien worked for the Terrapins from 2003 through 2004, coaching the running backs.

La Canfora also made reference to potential changes in the power structure in Houston, which could be the heart of the problem. With neither G.M. Rick Smith nor O’Brien clearly having final say, O’Brien could be making a power play aimed at getting it — or possibly at getting his own G.M./personnel exec, in the hopes of creating a Belichick-style structure moving forward.

Reached for a response by PFT, the Texans had no comment on the story.

If he does this, then any program (NFL or NCAA) moving forward would have to be leery of his tenure track record. 3 jobs in 5 seasons.

Not many better recruiting that area. Maybe Odell Haggins and Dawsey from FSU.

So I assume with this news Elliott didn't get the job?

A decision by South Carolina's football program this past week indicates the hiring of a new head coach should be finalized soon.
A source told FOXSports.com that Gamecocks assistant coaches were told to stop pursuing commitments from high school players. Such a move was done to keep scholarships open for recruits that the new head coach would want to pursue.

So my impression is the hire is out of coaching now? Perhaps Tressel or Schiano? Just seems weird to put that out there if you don't have your guy.

or possibly a coordinator? I guess it could be a HC who would finish up the season but still start recruiting at USCe..I still think it is Herman's if he wants it..but Houston has a lot of football left..2 more regular season games, conference championship, and possibly a New Year's Day 6 bowl

Miami (FL): Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman reports Texas head coach Charlie Strong has interest in the Miami (FL) job. The Dallas Morning News recently reported Strong didn’t have interest, and the coach told reporters, “No, I’m not going to Miami.” OrangeBloods.com reports Strong has "become irritated" with the reports and that he doesn't want the job.

Houston Texans: Asked about reported interest (and disinterest) in the Maryland head coaching job, Bill O’Brien said Monday night, “These things get thrown out here by the media, and I will not respond to those things. I know you have to ask that and it’s not directed at you, but anyone can say anything. They can just throw it out there and say anything. All I know is that I’m head coach of the Houston Texans and we just had a great win, and I’m damn proud to be the head coach of the Houston Texans

Bill OBrien would be a boring hire for Maryland imo. A school thats trying to use its Under Armour marquee the way Oregon uses NIKE would seem to want a flashy guy.

Yep. Throw 7m to Chip Kelly and see if he bites. Their list should be guys with offense backgrounds. Josh McDaniels is a name that has been mentioned by Maryland media. We laugh but Kiffin definitely would create buzz.

The more I think about it, I think Kiffin would be a good hire for them

I don't get all these Strong rumors..unless Cristobal wants to wait until after the season to decide

Texas: In an impromptu press conference Wednesday night, Charlie Strong told reporters that reports linking him to Miami (FL) are just rumors, and he came to Texas to build a program. It was an opportunity to squash the Miami talk for good, but Strong didn't exactly do it.

Miami (FL): The Palm Beach Post reports that Miami’s decision-makers have “zeroed in” on Charlie Strong as their leading candidate, and they’re waiting to see if he will be dismissed at Texas (Scout.com reports Strong has the support to return in 2016). Rivals reported Tuesday that Strong doesn’t want the Miami job and is irritated by reports. In addition, the Post also reports Miami recently gauged the interest of Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Mike Shula and Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson

I bet Miami talks to Justin Fuentes before Memphis Bowl game.

BTW he's been mentioned some in this thread, but I'm throwing my weight behind Matt Campbell of Toledo ending up as the best coach from this class. Willie Fritz from GASO second best.
