Nebraska vs. Northwestern

They sure dominated the 1996 Fiesta Bowl (National championship game), It was like they were playing against a kids Pop Warner team.

Yes, they did…and it was the 1997 Fiesta Bowl…no it wasn’t…it was 1996.

It’s a minor miracle that Pop Warner team ever won another game.

Nebraska could have hired Tommy Frazier. Almost impossible that he would have been as bad as Frost.

Doesn’t it make sense that Nebraska’s recruiting woes stem from joining the B1G? The Texas and other southwestern kids do not care to play in the B1G for Nebraska…I think that is part of the reason for Texas joining the SEC; Texas kids were starting to choose the SEC to play in.

And Nebraska is not getting kids from the heart of B1G country to come play in…Nebraska.

Mostly agree but too many Texas kids are still going to Ohio State.

You'd think so, but what's interesting is that according to 247 they haven't been awful recruiting-wise since joining the Big Ten. They routinely come in around 4th-5th and are only behind the schools you'd expect them to be behind (Ohio St, Michigan, Penn St, etc.).

The real question to ask about Nebraska is not "Why aren't they good anymore?" but rather "How/why were they ever that good in the first place?" It does not make a ton of sense why a college football power would spring up in Lincoln, NE to begin with. The real oddity isn't why they haven't been a CFB power in nearly 20 years but rather how they were so dominant for nearly 40 years. They had a lot of things working against them when Devaney and Osborne were there too.
