New forum: Coaching Rumors and Speculation

At this point I would be pumped to grab Charlie Strong, surprised if we can grab Peterson, and speechless if we actually get Gruden.

As a fan, I'm setting my expectations on Strong, anyone less impressive than him and our program is just wasting time. I think Hart knows what it takes to win in the SEC, something Hamilton didn't have a clue about, so I would think we can make a good hire and rebound pretty fast for next year. At least to make a damn bowl game.

Do NOT hire a freakin' assistant coach. We need somebody who's proven they can win as a head coach at a decent program.

Gruden is who I would like to see hired.

Fisher is my second choice.

We need a HC who can bring in a full group of very good assistant coaches. Either of those two would prolly do that. Gruden surely has the contacts.

I've never believed that Gruden would give up his sweet gig to coach college ball.

It would take NFL money for him to quit his current job.

Grudenites were always delusional about Gruden coming to Tennessee but then again, lots of people around here live in dreamland, LOL!

VFL...GBO!!!

Nothing in the article gave any evidence Gruden is interested in coaching for Philly. The only quote referred to a comment made several months ago that he might like to coach again. So taking a jab at Vol fans for hoping for Gruden by using a known rumor website that is a step above a blog is just as laughable if not more than the fans saying Gruden is coming here.

Get real folks. This is not a good job anymore. The program is at the bottom of the SEC outhouse! No currently successful head coach at a big program is going to come to UT!

Lol. Classic Charlie Brownesque NegaVol response. If all we had to offer was fans like you, you would be right. But with top 5 training facilities, powerhouse level tradition, & a stadium that seats 100K+ we should be ok.

Why would Gruden want this job? Its going to take a while to turn this mess around. He probably makes more money on MNF than what they would be willing to give up. Its time to go big or stay at the bottom of the SEC for the next 10 year.

OK, I haven't posted in weeks while all this BS has been swirling. Just enjoyed all the noise. Guess what I've most been wondering is....

Gruden won a Super Bowl. That's a really big deal. But overall his record was just over 500 and he was fired. So why, exactly (good reasoning, please, not glib smart arse answers) is he so highly favored by Vol Nation?

According to Twitter....Petrino is our man. I know he has alot of baggage but so does the Vols. This may be a match made to fulfill 2 needs. He needs a job and we need to win. He has proven he can win that is without a doubt. If this does happen his contracts needs to state that he will reimburse the school if there are any type of violations. Alot of people are against him and i can agree with them but, this is an opportunity for both sides to win if it does happen. Personally i am ready for anyone who can lead us out of the bottom of the barrel. Any coach that comes here in our situation is taking a chance, if he will do it for us why can't we do it for him. Any opinions or logical thoughts?

Why not hire David Shaw from Stanford? The guy is classy, wins with a bunch of white dudes (thats not racist), and his team is well coached. I'm for it, but my opinion means as much as the next guys. Let's all pray Hart makes a wise decision because Tennessee football is in critical condition.

If this happens, I fear for Mitch Barnhart's life in Lexington. Mitch has supposedly made it very clear that he has no interest in Petrino after some intense pressure from fans, boosters, and board of trustees members. If Petrino is hired at UT and Mitch didn't even attempt to get him, the fanbase will be LIVID.

Now, obviously if Petrino received an offer from UK and UT, and he chose UT (understandable), then the fans could live with it. It's the blatant disregard for wishes of a number of close people to the UK program that would tick many people off if he didn't even try.

All of that to say that it's a big risk for anyone to go after Petrino right now. His baggage is obvious, but he is perhaps a top-5 coach nationally who is currently unemployed. A program desperate to win again could be very attracted to Petrino. It may just have to sell it's soul just a little bit to get him.

The origin of the twitter rumor is an unofficial Arkansas fan site. Wouldn't put much stock into it. Not to say that Petrino's out, but they're in the same boat we are - wanting Gruden and also not wanting Petrino.
