I don't have a good feeling about Hart. He's a control freak and not a team player. He's known as a maverick who wants to go his own way. I can see where he would want to curtail the HC's power and restrict decisionmaking. IF Gruden wants to coach college and he doesn't come to UT, Hart's need to control will be the dealbreaker, not money, IMO.
Live in the Tri Cities area. WJHL just reported that Gruden's agent informed Tennessee that Gruden wanted to be part of the Athletic Department Decision Makers and wanted to be an Assistant AD. Said Hart refused to even consider this idea.-Reported by Kenny Hawkins
Listened to 680 The Fan in Atlanta today, and while this may be old news, They said it was actually Gruden's agent that contacted Tennessee to express Grudens interest in the position, not Tennessee contacting Gruden. Im not sure what to think of this, but If your a Gruden fan, this might make you worry a bit on whether or not Tennessee is considering him a SERIOUS candidate.
Just FYI, Stoops to UT is getting alot of traction right now amongst the Big donor circles. Gruden and UT have been back and forth for the last few days. The Eagles are becoming a serious player for Gruden now.
Another one ive toyed with is Watson Brown at TN Tech, he could do just fine at UT, he did almost get us in 05 when he was coaching at UAB...maybe you hired him for 2-3 years let him show Chaney the ropes of a HC and then he turns it over to Chaney, that could set a lot of stability up for the program and bring back recruits....thoughts?
Is this the worst post ever or what?
Okay I'll play and get run through the ringer a little I'm sure, but what the heck...haven't done a search to see how many times this might've been mentioned here already, but I did personally hear Gruden on MNF tonight speak the words "Tennessee" and "Knoxville", both inside of 15 seconds. They were just after Bryce Brown's 1st TD run; he mentioned how there's a surprise every year, just like Foster 2 years ago from Tennessee and Brown's having come out of a stint in Knoxville. Means nothing obviously unless these factoids were produced in rapid succession by a mind preoccupied with Knoxville and the Vols.
Okay, you can let me have it now! Or at least I'm pretty sure it was Gruden and not one of the other announcers.
I watched the Dan Patrick Show this morning. He doesn't think Jon Gruden has any real interest in coaching any college team. He said by acting as though he had interest he can drive his price up while negotiating a price to return to the NFL and coach.
If that is the case, who is out there that is available better than Petrino to turn a program around fast.
I don't know but I sure don't want a bad hire and have Dooley ball for 3-4 seasons.
I heard this, too. In the post game, when talking about Newton, Mike T. Mentioned SEC and Gruden looked over at the camera and raised his eyebrows with a smirk. Who knows what this meant? Maybe he is toying with VN emotions. Maybe he is subliminally giving the nod to the rumors. Who know? If he is hired, the snag could be that it will not announced until after Dec 17th, the last MNF game. Remember, he has to have an exit strategy since he is in a 5 year contract with ESPN.
