New forum: Coaching Rumors and Speculation

I am starting to think along the lines that we will go after Al Golden, Gary Paterson, or Charlie Strong.

Just FYI, Stoops to UT is getting alot of traction right now amongst the Big donor circles. Gruden and UT have been back and forth for the last few days. The Eagles are becoming a serious player for Gruden now.

I don't have a good feeling about Hart. He's a control freak and not a team player. He's known as a maverick who wants to go his own way. I can see where he would want to curtail the HC's power and restrict decisionmaking. IF Gruden wants to coach college and he doesn't come to UT, Hart's need to control will be the dealbreaker, not money, IMO.

I am hearing the same thing out of some of the bigger donors. If true, Hart better pull a big hire out or he is history according to some of these donors.

Live in the Tri Cities area. WJHL just reported that Gruden's agent informed Tennessee that Gruden wanted to be part of the Athletic Department Decision Makers and wanted to be an Assistant AD. Said Hart refused to even consider this idea.-Reported by Kenny Hawkins

Heard this earlier today. Hart is on his own on this not good.

Listened to 680 The Fan in Atlanta today, and while this may be old news, They said it was actually Gruden's agent that contacted Tennessee to express Grudens interest in the position, not Tennessee contacting Gruden. Im not sure what to think of this, but If your a Gruden fan, this might make you worry a bit on whether or not Tennessee is considering him a SERIOUS candidate.

Someone posted in another thread the Stoop said he was happy at OU, not interested in the TN job

Is this the worst post ever or what?

It is pretty laughable.

Why not go after Manny Diaz, the DC at Texas? He has no HC experience but he is a dynamic recruiter. To complement him, hire MTSU DC, Tyrone Nix or Lance Thompson to be UT's DC. Keep Chaney, Pittman, Graham, and Hinshaw to help with Continuity.

I looked at the 2013 recruiting rankings and Louisville (Charlie Strong), Syracuse (Doug Marrone), LA Tech (Sonny Dykes), and Boise State (Chris Petersen) are all ranked 73rd or worse by Rivals.com.

Tennessee, not only needs a good X's and O's guy but also someone who can close strong on NSD.

Okay I'll play and get run through the ringer a little I'm sure, but what the heck...haven't done a search to see how many times this might've been mentioned here already, but I did personally hear Gruden on MNF tonight speak the words "Tennessee" and "Knoxville", both inside of 15 seconds. They were just after Bryce Brown's 1st TD run; he mentioned how there's a surprise every year, just like Foster 2 years ago from Tennessee and Brown's having come out of a stint in Knoxville. Means nothing obviously unless these factoids were produced in rapid succession by a mind preoccupied with Knoxville and the Vols.

Okay, you can let me have it now! Or at least I'm pretty sure it was Gruden and not one of the other announcers.

I heard this, too. In the post game, when talking about Newton, Mike T. Mentioned SEC and Gruden looked over at the camera and raised his eyebrows with a smirk. Who knows what this meant? Maybe he is toying with VN emotions. Maybe he is subliminally giving the nod to the rumors. Who know? If he is hired, the snag could be that it will not announced until after Dec 17th, the last MNF game. Remember, he has to have an exit strategy since he is in a 5 year contract with ESPN.

Well one thing is certain. It gives Vol Nation something to talk about. I just hope we get a good fit for us and can get back to the top where we belong. At this point, the ones in charge have control, and just hope they do their homework, I am sure they will after all it's their money.

I watched the Dan Patrick Show this morning. He doesn't think Jon Gruden has any real interest in coaching any college team. He said by acting as though he had interest he can drive his price up while negotiating a price to return to the NFL and coach.

If that is the case, who is out there that is available better than Petrino to turn a program around fast.
I don't know but I sure don't want a bad hire and have Dooley ball for 3-4 seasons.

Jim Tressel is the real turnaround candidate, in his second season at tOSU he won a NC and beat one of the greatest college football teams ever assembled to do it.

VN is an ESPN powered site, maybe Gruden is trolling on here and giving us the smirk as a coy play at the hostage negotiations hes gonna use us for to get the Eagles gig.

A Breakdown Of The Coaches!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher: He makes $2.75 million, Could be had by UT if Tennessee overpays and they should if they can't get Gruden!

Miami (Fla.) coach Al Golden: A "LOSER" just like Dooley, makes no sense to can Doo Doo for a guy thats just 6 games better over the last 3yrs then the "Foolster"

ESPN Monday Night Football commentator Jon Gruden: This is the guy UT needs to pump life back in to a once proud program, but something tells me UT is not that serious bout winning!

Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy: Gundy .He's 66-34 in his career and makes $3.2 , again not the guy you really want but would be a better then Golden!

Cincinnati coach Butch Jones: Jones is too risky for UT at this time UT needs a homerun or something very close Jones doesn't fit either of those requirements!

Texas Christian coach Gary Patterson: Patterson would do okay here hes won a rose bowl and has played in another!

Former Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino: Ole Bobby is a snake in the grass but he can coach and win in the SEC, UT woud be fools not to offer him the job, but wait UT are fools so Petrino is out!

Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart: Not as risky as the Jones hire would be, but a risky move that UT can't afford!

Louisville coach Charlie Strong: Strong is 23-14 at Louisville not good enough in my opinion to hand him the keys to UTFB program!

Inclosing its Gruden or bust!, if UT doesn't pull the trigger and give Gruden the control hes looking for then count me out as a suppoter of this slop being passedoff as UTFB!

We will miss you...maybe. We might offer Gruden but I'm not sold on the fact that we will, but I highly doubt he will accept if we do.
