Really? This is the best we can do? FAIL. Who didn't see this coming? The feel good hire of the year, yippee! We will suck until atleast 2020. Thanks alot, sounds like it is a done deal and has been for a while. Looks like we will be letting him coach his bowl game. Then I guess he will come to Knoxville for a big show and let us look like we aren't racist cause we hired a black guy! Awesome. You don't hire a guy cause of skin.

That's really not a good reason not to hire anyone. Ability to do the job up to Tennessee standards (everything that that entails) should be the only criteria. The inability of some racist fans to accept a black coach should be a total non factor just like it was when we recruited the first black player, first black QB and first black assistant coaches. If fans cant accept him due to his race, then they're not true Tennessee fans and we dont need them in the 100 sections or anywhere else. Let them go to a truly racist region where they dont hire black coaches, like Miss State . . .
Oh I forgot, they already did that.

strong--good coach, but not SEC type great. He will have trouble outcoaching and outrecruiting saban, muschamp, miles, spurrier and richt for top talent.

Honestly if this happens I would be a really happy. I wanted Jimbo or Stoops but neither appear to be leaving, Strong would be my next choice. I think he will be a very solid recruiter, he seems like the type of coach kids would want to play for. He did very well at UL with less talent and worse facilities. For everyone complaining, it can only get better, who would you rather have Dooley or Strong? He will have success here no doubt in my mind.

Not my first choice but I think he will be a great coach. Everyone has to look at the coaches out there he has better chance of succedding than the others.My first choice would have been Bill Cower but his not coming out of retirement.

taking a wait and see approach. With Dooley, he immidiately felt like Mike Shula to me. With Strong, it seems to be an average hire, not a spectacular hire. makes me wonder about the organizational structure at TN, something must be amiss.

what I hear from a lot of fans is that returning the team to "good" is not the final destination, we want to compete for the east every year. not sure Strong is the man, but it sounds like he is Coach, so we'll cheer for him and hope for the best.

BUT given that Hart had over a year to prepare for this hire, I can't help but wonder what deal he screwed up first.

Strong would not have been my first choice, had two 7-6 seasons before this year, and not a guarantee at all like I thought Hart was going for in the search. I would have preferred Gundy and really wanted Fedora.

Aside from Gruden, this was my first choice. And Gruden was never very realistic...

I don't get why anyone would hate on this. No puns intended...Strong recruiter. Had great Ds at UF and has turned Louisville around with the quickness.

5-7 in 2008
4-8 in 2009
7-6 in 2010 and 2011
10-2 in 2012

any guesses as to when he took over Louisville??? Anyone who dislikes this hire (if it happens) is just mad for the sake of being mad.

Get Gru's poster off your wall, and for Pete's sake, take off the Farah Fawcett wig.

Pretty good hire. I was not a fan of Gundy. That brand of ball got us 4 wins this year. Bielema is committing career suicide.

Well, he IS moving to Arkansas, which is about the same thing as actual suicide...

I would take Bielema right now over anyone, guy can flat out coach, hence 3 Rose Bowls in a row.

I think it is awesome we will have black coaches for football and basketball, there needs to be more black coaches in NCAA football.

No one cares if he's black - the fear is he's mediocre as a coach at best. Seems like we just got rid of a mediocre coach - where's the logic?

Mediocre resume in your opinion: Takes over a program in decline... 6, 5, then 4 wins in consecutive seasons. Has a 7-6 season. Has a second 7-6 season but ties for first in his conference. Has a 10-2 season, gets a BCS berth, AND has his team in the top 15 for much the season.

Look at Saban's record at MSU before he finally broke through with a 9-3 season. It took him longer than 3 years.

I feel the same way!!! Strong will be a good hire and VolNation needs to get behind the new coach and support our program! I will support whoever we hire, but would love to have any of the three!

It's the Big East for god's sake..And 2 losses to UConn and Syracuse?? If Strong gets the job I'll support him because he's UT's coach..But his record in the Big LEast is not a defensible reasonto hire him...
