Exactly. Firing Fulmer wasn't the problem. Choosing an all-star and shady recruiting staff led by Kiffie was what put us under. I know Brian Kelly was one of several quality coaches mentioned back then but we opted for recruiters over a good HC. That obviously backfired and we're still paying for it.

I agree. Strong is mediocre at best.
After all we have been through, we need to be patient and get a top notch coach.
We don`t want to loose three more miserable years and go through this again.

Poster I replied to DID care that he is black. Go back and read the original post I responded to. As to your concern Strong is a mediocre coach, I would point to his excellent record as SEC Def Coordinator on two national championship teams and the job he's done turning around Louisville. True he's not Saban, Stoops, or some other head coach who's won NCs but he has an extensive track record in the SEC, has been a coordinator on two NC teams, and has proven he can turn a team around at Louisville. I would prefer him over Gundy who has only coached in Big 12, and has had very weak defenses. Perhaps Beilema would have been a better choice, but dont know that he was ever on our radar screen.

tressel? stay away--the NcAA will be setting up shop in any town where he is hired. He would have UT on probation in 2 years.

I hope UT talks with Kirby Smart.
He is young, smart, has worked with the best coaches in the SEC.
There is a reason he is one of, if not the highest paid assistants in the country. (SEC included).

i can't disagree with this at all, but we are one step away from being the worst program in the SEC. it is probably worth the gamble.

Tressel isn't the black mark you think he is. That situation was so stupid and the NCAA completely overreacted. I'd take Tressel in a heartbeat.

Tressel is toxic. There is a reason he isn't even in the discussion. He has been corrupt even before the Ohio State gig.

This just in: Heather Harrington reports that the new UT Head Football Coach will be Bobby Petrino and that she hopes that there is room on his "staff" for her. She always hated that she wasn't as close to Dooley's staff as she was to Lane Kiffin's.

Damn guys, finally was able to log on..server was too busy!! lol Now Strong and Gundy are off table eh. My dear friend in Knovxille said Strong told his players he was staying last night. Oh well, I really wasnt that ecstatic about Strong coming anyways. Would have been ok with it and supported him, but hes not the home run hire we desperately need!

Read a report on ESPN that Butch Davis is the leading candidate for job at FIU.....FIU people!!!! Come on Hart, are you fahqing seriously not going to go after him and let BUTCH DAVIS land at St Marys school for the Deaf and Blind??!! Take a chance on Petrino or Tressel...we ARE that desperate I dont care what anybody says. We need a big name here..baggage or no baggage!!

if fedora and strong fall thru you almost have to take a chance on tressel or petrino IMO... no one else reallly has potential to get us to winning again. i think that will happen too if those guys decide to stay put

Fedora? Davis? are these the coaches who in his press conference were choices for Tennessee? Are these the coaches that every AD knows about? This is a joke. No one interviewed these coaches for any other SEC school when those jobs came open. I can't believe that the money men at UTK will let Hart's "telepathic coaching search" go any farther. If we can't get a coach that brings UT back to glory, screw Hamilton 2.0 and I hope we run his butt back out of town on a pink elephant with a ******^ crimson boa.
