New forum: Coaching Rumors and Speculation

Just offer Petrino and be done with it. Many may not like him, but who cares. He'll win us some ball games.

Clay just tweeted: On Tweeted flight rumor to Louisville tweet earlier. Volquest is now at airport and says Hart's car is parked outside Pilot hangar.

Pilot plane confirmed to be headed to Louisville...according to flight plan... Strong also didn't attend Bowl prep meeting according to Louisville sites...

taking a wait and see approach. With Dooley, he immidiately felt like Mike Shula to me. With Strong, it seems to be an average hire, not a spectacular hire. makes me wonder about the organizational structure at TN, something must be amiss.

what I hear from a lot of fans is that returning the team to "good" is not the final destination, we want to compete for the east every year. not sure Strong is the man, but it sounds like he is Coach, so we'll cheer for him and hope for the best.

BUT given that Hart had over a year to prepare for this hire, I can't help but wonder what deal he screwed up first.

A couple of key points to make on Strong :
1. has weak big east talent to work with and has built up UL from inheriting a 15-21 program , sound familiar
2. to the people stating he had a couple 7-5 seasons that is a good turn around from 4-7
Some of you posters just DO NOT GET IT !
1. Gruden WAS NEVER GOING TO COACH COLLEGE!
2. Fisher has a better gig now with no Ga, Bama .USC on the schedule EVERY YEAR!
3. GUNDY was never going to leave his alma mater
4. Golden,Fedora, not no but hell no !

Last tweet by @withrowzone: Per @JimmyHyams : been told by 2 sources Charlie Strong has informed Tennessee that he is staying at Louisville

Has Tennessee become the red headed step child?

Yes. People are afraid to come coach here because its become a dumpster fire. This has become the school where coaches come to get tarnished. Look at who they have to play against tho...miles, saban, spurrier

Six SEC teams in the top 10 nationally and Tennessee not being a natural instate recruiting base is killing us.

While we see the tradition, fanbase, stadium and facilities as attractive drawing points, that's all being trumped by the current state of the program and that of the rest of the conference, unfortunately.

Urban had heart problems coaching in the SEC and is now at Ohio State. Tennessee is 4th at best in the SEC East behind Muschamp, Reicht, and Spurrier, not to mention the SEC West Coaches. Nobody wants this pressure cooker as we have been turned down by coaches that are not satisfied where they are. Looking like the Best Available Coach out there that would take the job might be Jim Tressel. Better go after him before we once again make shambles of our coaching search, and end up with someone that even might do worse than Dooley as some other SEC programs have already hired good coaches.

Can some please explain why the article states he met with Cheek and not Hart? If he's meeting with Cheek I say fire him, because that isn't on Hart.

why's cheek interviewing him and not Hart

Great point. It's pretty confusing and sounds like there is some chaos in Knoxville right now. Either they have no trust in Hart and want him to step out of the process or Cheek just went behind him. That's my guess, but it may be nothing at all. Who knows? However, wasn't it reported that Hart and his wife flew to Louisville today to meet with Strong?

I can almost guarantee that we will have to google the guys name that we hire. It will be some lame Derek Dooley hire again because so many coaches are afraid to risk their career at Tennessee. It's not that it's a bad place to coach just that when they look for other jobs and people see a resume of 6-7 or 5-7 at Tennessee it looks bad. Simple thing is Tennessee plays a tough schedule every year. Why wouldn't strong stay where he's at? I mean his toughest opponent in conference is Syracuse?
