New Recruits/Beginning to Wonder...

Whats up with our early recruiting??

are Vandy and Ole Miss...I know its very early in the process, but we are so far behind its not even funny. Go down and look at LSU, Alabama, UGA (I thought we were "owning" the state of GA, they have 9 recruits from in sate) even Miss States or UKs board and comapre it to us and its pretty bad. We will be looking to be lucky to land in the top 25 IMHO. I hope we fill needs but simply do not think we will have a top 10-15 class. Just dont see it happening this year.

I am not trying to be negative Nancy, just really really concerned about this...thoughts? I check every day and there is no news.

We will definitely fill our needs...and if we do that then a top 10-15 class is inevitable...

Go to Rivals and look at the last 4-5 class rankings....it doesn't take much to get a 15th place finish...

Kind of puts into perspective how badly Fulmer recruited in '06 and '08

I just think its a bad indicator that not one single player committed after the weekend and the so called "big visitor list" we had. While you guys are in sit back and wait mode, our rivals schools and other SEC schools recruiting boards are filling up. Call it negative or the sky is falling or whatever but we are getting passed by.

If all the great players are gone and committed elsewhere then who are we going to get? minor league baseball rejects and 2 star recruits that we hope are a "diamond in the rough"?

Has anyone not noticed a trend of quality players committing earlier and earlier and not looking around? Do we really want the players that seem to wait and love soaking up all the attention and hype i.e. Bryce Brown and Nukeesse Richardson???

Honestly we're lucky not to be dead last. When Dooley got hired he went after the '10 class as hard as he could, and by his own admission they didn't even consider the '11 class. So yeah, we're behind. Furthermore, only Cheney and Thompson had any relationships with SEC caliber '11 kids, the rest of the staff comes from smaller schools for the most part. The new guys are starting from scratch. So yeah, we're behind. On top of all that, none of the 4 -5 star guys know what our O and D will look like because We Haven't Played A Game Yet. If I were one of those kids seriously considering UT, I might think about waiting until the season starts. So yeah, we're behind.

There is news, it's just coming out at a trickle. Next week's camp holds a lot of promise, and last weekend's camp seems to have been a success. I'm not making excuses for the staff, imo these are just the facts.

go look up scout top 250 list and rival 250 list and tell me how many are "committed"

did you think a new coach would just come in and get 10 committs despite the turmoil this entire program has been thru in the last 3 yrs?

seriously?...

you want an indicator on how things are going, go read where we are with a bunch of these kids.

top 5, top 3, top 2, and in some cases we lead...
what else did you honestly expect?

where were you last yr in the summer when CLK's staff had the 2 commitments? hopefully I can find a couple of your worrisome posts from '09

We are doing as well as can be expected. Anyone that thinks we should be reeling in recruits despite the past 3 years is sorely mistaken.

Maybe try to put things into perspective a little, and understand that it's June 8. We have yet to play a down in the 2010 season.

1. I am not talking about the rivals top 250. I am talking about overall number of committs and stars and how the rest of the SEC including the weaker teams are kicking our ass.

2. If we could have hired a proven coach, yes we would have more than 2 3 stars committed.

4. I expected more progress than this.

5. Where was I last year? watching closely on here, Volquest, etc. like I do every day.

OF COURSE we don't have many recruits at this time. It's very early in the new staffs tenure, a few months in fact. 18 yo kids with elite talent don't line-up to sign with schools who have had two new coaches in back-to-back years, no matter the history and tradition of the program. It's takes time to talk to kids, get out and visit them, get them to visit campus, etc. It is ignorant and foolish to think that we would have 6,8 or 10 commits at this time. Recruiting is done well by establishing relationships, which this staff is far behind on. Not their fault, just the facts.

The staff seems to be doing very well so far, we are leading for some top quality prospects and are in the top 5 for many many more. It's early in the process and we have some top talent coming in to camps and for visits. We should have double digit commits by August/September and if we don't by October then maybe it's time to be concerned imo.

But if you read the threads on this site, articles on Rivals/scout/espn, pay attention to what's happening in recruiting in general you wouldn't be that concerned just yet. But if you're going to base your entire opinion on how recruiting is going by just the 2 commits we currently have, well then, yeah, you will be concerned. But that's just foolish. jmo

Who was your "more proven head coach" candidate? We were turned down by everybody and their brother pretty much, just be glad we got a guy who I think will turn the program around.

You guys can keep making up excuses for sub par recruiting, and if that makes you feel better, than cool. Doesnt work for me. I originally came on this site for recruiting insight, but there is no news. Just people making up excuses as to why we are not getting players committed. How many years is it going to take for us to catch up with the rest of the SEC 3,4,5? By then it will be too late for ole Dooley.
