You guys can keep making up excuses for sub par recruiting, and if that makes you feel better, than cool. Doesnt work for me. I originally came on this site for recruiting insight, but there is no news. Just people making up excuses as to why we are not getting players committed. How many years is it going to take for us to catch up with the rest of the SEC 3,4,5? By then it will be too late for ole Dooley.

Dooley can recruit, he managed to pull a 5* player from Georgia in Da'Rick Rogers. Just step back and take a breath and relax. If we only had two commits the day before signing day that's when we should be concerned.

I will really worry about recruiting maybe November and December, one thing that does concern me as it did last year is, alot of schools hold a skills camp and get 2 or 3 committments. For some reason we don't....I'm not a big recruiting guru but that just makes me say Hmmmmm.,

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Every team on your list is in a stronger position. Kentucky lost no momentum from their coaching change. Whoever is committed to them now, they've been on them for years. Arkansas, with Mallet and Petrino is in good shape. LSU,UF,UA aren't recruiting, they are selecting.

In the long run you could turn out to be right, I just think it's too early in the game to expect all these great players to be knocking on our door...

Subpar recruiting? I ain't heard no fat lady. Translation: We have nothing final to evaluate that. We had a very impressive finish with the recruiting class last year by Dooley, and no one has anyone signed for 2011. No excuses, just the facts. Verbal commitments (especially 8 months out) are to be taken very lightly. I expect a very strong class.

Just talked to one of the OL campers from this past weekend. He will be a Junior next year. He absolutely loved it. CDD talked to him and and wanted to see his Junior year hi-lites. CDD told him that he was impressed with him because of his camp and if his tape was good he could expect an offer next year. He's 6'-3, 275 right now. All he could talk about was being at Neyland and how impressed he was with our entire staff. Sorry I can't reveal his name at this time. I will at a later date.

How long have you followed recruiting Bo? LK's recruiting looked pretty sad at this same time last year. IDK if we finish top ten because of all the need we have on Dline and Oline but I guarantee this staff lands a top 15 class and fills our needs. I would also be willing to bet the class CDD recruits will contribute more in their time at UT than Lane's class. Off the field trouble and grades issues will still be a concern, it just is with any program these days, but I think Dooley is recruiting higher character guys with less academic issues.

I think we finish fourth or fifth in the SEC in recruiting. The scary thing is, it may still be a top ten class. It is amazing the talent that the SEC pulls in.

Last 4-5 years, since it has become such a huge deal and easier to obtain info..

I do not disagree with you necessarily, in fact I hope you are correct. It's just an opinion but I think a top 15 class is very optimistic. I think most of us here would take a top 15 and run with it today.... I surely hope your correct.. GBO

I think we'd both agree that filling needs is more important than where we finish in a recruiting services rankings...but...with that being said...take a look at 15th place in the last 5 Rivals rankings...

To me it's not far fetched...in fact I'd say we'd be assuming a borderline worst case scenario...to believe we'll at least pull off what those teams did...

When you look at it closely it really puts into perspective how badly Fulmer recruited in '06 and especially '08

Right. The Fulmer situation was justly rectified. I do see your point and agree that OL,DL and Special team positions regardless of rankings, if filled, will be a huge determining factor in the success of this class..

I looked at the last 4 years #15 classes and believe that it is possible to attain that type of class. I hope we can get started soon because, for example, UGA just got its 11th commit and fifth 4* guy.... GBO

first of all, I respect most people on here and their opinions. I seem to be getting bashed for my comments/concerns which I think is a bunch of BS! May I speak freely please without getting bashed? I have not hit the panic button yet, I am just really concerned with where we are at. I think comparing where we were at last year is a mute point. We are even more behind roster wise than last year, and Kiffin (for the record, I never liked the hire, I hate the SOB, and I am glad to see that karma is biting him in the arse) but he was building a top 5 class! however you want to spin it. I can not say that Dooley is capable of accomplishing that at this juncture. yes he finished strong but LK did 85-90% of the work, what Dooley gained we had as good or better players coming had Kiffin stayed. So I think the jury is still out on if Dooley can recruit at UT in the SEC. I am just concerned with where we are at and time is not on our side at all. Unfortunately he is not at a program where he can take 3-4 years to get caught up, and we are so far behind our rivals its not even funny. Like a ton of UT fans out there, I would like to see more accomplished in 5 months than two 3 star commitments when our competitors have 10 or more. So far I like Dooley and he may indeed be the "Bruce Pearl hire" for Hamilton, we shall see, sooner than later.

People aren't bashing you, just the ridiculous drivel you are posting. Comparing this year to Kiffin's recruiting last year is not a "mute" [sic] point precisely because he would have ended up with a top 5 class (and he had 7 months on the job this time last year). Kiffin turned it around once recruits saw the product we put on the field showed some promising signs. What top recruit in his right mind is going to commit to a program in complete turmoil 8 months before signing day? It's fine to have high expectations, but when they have zero basis in reality, expect some disagreement.

Agree. In the SEC, you are towards the bottom of the barrel in talent if you are only signing a top 15 class. After seeing the numbers some of these top tier SEC schools can sign, I think UT should be a top ten team this year. People are going to have to be patient though. The landscape will change a lot between now and NSD.

Once the season starts and kids see what DD does on the field, kids will come because they like what DD does or they won't because they don't like what DD does.

The majority of these kids commit to a staff, not a school. Why in the hell would they commit when they haven't seen a product on the field? Think about that.

5. Where was I last year? watching closely on here, Volquest, etc. like I do every day.

If you keep up like this, you're gonna end up climbing a clock tower with a rifle strapped to your back wondering where you went wrong.

7 weeks after poll was started and still 2 cimmits.(not counting JC's). Looks like we are all still pretty calm about the situation. Only about 22-23% are worried about our recruiting at this point according to this poll.... GBO

Let me start by sayin I'm not trying to be negative at all.

Does anyone think it strange that we did not get at least 1 commitment after the O&W game. I do!! The fact that other top schools seem to be getting early commits trickeling in a few at a time leads me to wonder if our program is really in this bad of a situation.

Please, lets hear your opinions and be sure to cast your vote in the above poll.

I will not be concerned or wonder until signing day. that is when it will be evident how successful this staff is going to be. Commitments are not a big deal in June and July. Who signs in February is key to this staff.
