New Recruits/Beginning to Wonder...

Whats up with our early recruiting??

I've been noticing CDD has been picking up quite a few recruits lately. However, I also noticed none of them are better than a 3 star player at this point. I know its very early, but even ole miss has 4 4-stars already committed. Should we be concerned about this? I'm not getting too uptight just yet, there is still plenty of time but I just wanted to hear my fellow fans' opinions.

I wouldn't pay much attention to the number of stars right now. At this early stage of the recruiting game the stars are pretty arbitrary imo. As these players enter their senior season a lot of those rankings will change. There are very few elite, or 5 * recruits out there to begin with. As recruiting progresses I believe we'll see Dooley bring in some 4* recruits and maybe we'll get a couple of nice surprises along the way. Dooley is doing a fantastic job right now, especially with the past week we've had with regards to committments. A nice solid base of these guys this early in his first recruiting year is a great start for him and I think we'll see UT only pick up more steam as we move along. Remember, Dooley is building something here.

Was wondering if there are any 4 or 5 stars that have TN high on their list of schools?

Do you guys think this will be Dooley's most difficult year as far as recruiting? Given the coaching turnover, general negativity surrounding the program this past season, fact that other SEC teams are so strong right now.

Who do you think are our strongest recruiters and who are our weak links as far as recruiting? I think this is a quality staff but not as strong on the recruiting trail as the previous one.

I think it will be the toughest by far. Not just because of the past, just because of the unknown (state of the program, Dooley's coaching style, offense/defense philosophies, etc.).

In terms of this staff's recruiters I think a comparison to the prior staff is a bit unfair. Those guys are "star" coaches, meaning many of the kids knew their names going into the recruiting process. I think that with a couple of years our staff will prove to be top flight recruiters if we can keep them together. In terms of a week link I think we need to get Hiestand a little more into the recruiting game for offensive linemen. His resume sells itself, but I haven't heard a TON about his recruiting efforts like I have like other newcomers like Chuck Smith, Hinshaw, Joseph, and Baggett. Just my two cents. Give the guys some time to get established and I say that over the next couple of years we will have a more legit chance at landing some of those 4* and 5* guys.

arnett, hayes, martin, richardson, gabe wright, walls are some that are very high on the vols. anyone care to add?

In mid April of this year a poll was initiated in this forum as to whether the posters here on VN thought that our recruiting situation was in good shape or not..

Out of approx. 450 voters 84.79% voted that the state of our recruiting was either in fine shape or too early to tell. Alot of you guys voted in this poll I'm sure. Has your opinion changed or not?

It's now 2 1/2 months later. Do you have the same confidence now as then?

A couple of solid wins on the field would not hurt matters any. We could help our own case by having a better than expected season.
