D = Heupel not being the coach we thought he was. Having an abysmal OL and WR room in year 4 and potentially having an even worse one on year 5 lands solely on the HC’s inept roster management and play development. How many teams in the transfer portal era have gone 7-5, 10-2, 8-4, and 10-2 and gone into year 5 with almost 0 production returning offensively? A walkon RB and former walkon TE are our top 2 returning skill players this year and there’s a very good chance our best offensive weapon next year is currently a defensive back
We're almost always on the same page, so maybe I'm wrong, but do you see today's Nico getting drafted? Hooker was 50x better and has a lot of bench time.
Great post.Marcus Mariota, Trevor Lawerence, Tua Tagoviloa, Jalen Hurts, Bryce Young, Josh Dobbs, Tyler Bray, Justin Herbert, Caleb Williams, Justin Fields, Deshaun Watson, Chris Leak, Tim Tebow, Johnny Manziel, JT Barrett, Jacob Eason, Jake Fromm, and Matt Barkley were all more productive players in either their redshirt/true freshmen years or true sophomore years after playing a small role as true freshmen. Even DJ Lagway is more impressive than him. Stop saying “Nico is a freshman” as if he was in high school this time last year. He started practicing with the team in December of 2022. He’s had a bowl practice, spring ball, an entire offseason, fall camp, a redshirt year while playing mop up duty, another bowl pracice and bowl game, spring practice, an offseason, another fall camp, a full season, and a third year of bowl practice and we’re still wondering how he’s going to be when he steps onto the field next season. Nico was considered “a generational talent” and so far it’s not played out that way. I think it’s safe to say
A: he’s not what we thought he was coming out of HS
B: Josh Heupel isn’t the coach/QB developer we thought he was when we signed Nico
C: a little bit of both
Nico is tweeting stuff tonight that looks like he's at least teasing a transfer. I might be alone in my thoughts, but don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split you. We haven't gotten anything close to 8 million in performance. I understand that he's only a redshirt freshman, but he's struggling. If our coaches had faith they'd be calling some deep plays. His departure may also explain some of our receivers leaving. Next up... let's go. Aloha Nico

Can't blame him. Why take another year of running for your life behind a piss poor OL only to have a group of receivers who can't get open or catch a cold? Heupel's offense has no answers....or perhaps I should say Heupel and his coaches have no answers. Nico and his family are either truly interested in new digs or he's angling to get a huge pay raise as a kind of insurance policy to the season he's about to experience next year. Honestly can't make an argument for the kid to stay in Knoxville. It is what it is. Thanks for the memories, Nico.Nico is tweeting stuff tonight that looks like he's at least teasing a transfer. Yes it was. Stiil, it's one thing to practice or play some snaps in mop up duty vs being the starting QB in the SEC with very little talent around him. Just hate that this staff may have wasted Nicos time here...how ever long it turns out to be. Watch him transfer, explode and win a natty or heistman. Such a UT thang.Great post.
The elite players all want to be paid. You want a group of 3 stars who love the orange or do you want to compete with the big boys? Can't have it both ways. For the vast majority of players, they don't have realistic NFL chances. This is now their chance at financial security. There's no "love of school" anymore. The color they love is green not orange. Welcome to "college" football today.if he wants to leave, whatever at this point, I’m just tired of these players with their middle school social media posts for attention. He is good but is he millions better than MacIntyre, Merklinger, or Faizon coming the following season.
If he’s with us let’s roll. If not, let’s roll to the next and build our team. I want players who want to be here, not players who just want more money or their way
My guess is the post is more about the WR crew still up in the air for next year and squirrel leaving but sorry, this is the new college football. Next man up
“Freshmen”. He’s been in the system 2 full years now. Your statement about Nico/hooker is laughable at this point. There’s just no evidence to show you’re anywhere close to correct. Maybe you don’t remember but hooker was great here. I’m not arguing that he didn’t have more talent around him, but on paper that may not be correct either. Heupel is in 4 deep in recruiting classes now. If true, maybe it says something about him. Nico has done absolutely nothing to show that he’s more talented, even with more talented people around him. I hope your right and he shows that next season, but he sure hasn’t yet.Nico has much more talent that Hooker and it is not close. Sure, as a 23 year old 5th year senior with elite NFL receivers with elite speed he looked great. 50/50 Nico starts an NFL game before Hooker. I loved Hooker but don’t blame Nico because idiots on here thought that 5 star meant he was going to win the Heisman as a freshmen.
