Nkamhoua out for the season

This. ON is our best post when it comes to small ball. More so than Fulky, we need one of Aidoo or BHH to grow up quickly.
Fulky and ON both have played great as the small ball 5 honestly. ON was certainly finding his stride at that spot in sec play, but I believe Fulky can man that role just fine. It's going to be about stealing enough minutes in our non small ball lineups to stay competitive. I'm interested to see who actually starts. Fulky and Uros don't exactly play well together. Do they just keep it simple and start Powell or Bailey? I doubt we see ZZ starting if only because he's our sparkplug off the bench (and the backup point guard). Not sure what they'll do.

Can Fulkerson play 25 min/g and maintain his relative effectiveness? That’s about what he averaged last year during conference play. Uros might be capped at 20 or below anyway. Basically double BHH to 15mpg and 10 min split between Mashack and Aidoo depending on the matchup.
I’m allocating as many minutes as I can get away with to the guards…

Chandler 15/Zeigler 25
Vescovi 25/Chandler 15
Powell 25/Vescovi 8/James 7
James 27/BHH 13
Plav 15/Fulk 25

Losing a shot blocker and a few points in the paint..... I hate he is out, hopefully he heals well

538 adjusts their tournament model for inuries using win shares. Using similar methodology losing ORN accounts for almost .05 wins per game; 4.6%. There are some broad generalizations and assumptions baked into this. Some real mathematical gymnastics. But even if that's accurate, while it wouldn't seem like a major impact in any one game, the cumulative effect, especially over the course of a single-elimination tournament where games are close; it may cost the Vols a game over the balance of the year. We'll see.

A more accurate method might be to use hoop explorer on/off data but I'm not going to get into that.

Tough break. Hoping/praying for a fairly quick, and complete recovery for ORN. Really impressed with the development of his game vs last season, and even within the course of this season. It didn’t come without hard work, practically EVERY DAY, by ORN.

The ORN skill that will be toughest to replace on this team is his man Defense vs a strong post player. ORN has strength and quickness, on display when a strong post player tries to back ORN down in the paint or pivot on him.

IK some on here will downplay but this is a huge loss and dramatically takes my expectations down from a 50/50 Sweet 16 Year to almost certainly out by then.

We have decent outside shooters and an inside game that should be better but is pretty weak. Nkamhoua was our best mid-range guy and a great defensive force as well.

Wish him a speedy recovery as possible and hopefully he will be ready to go next year.

His conditioning seems to be improving but he is consistently getting into foul trouble so he can’t seem to stay out there. He’s going to have to cut that out as we are going to need him to play 25 now going forward.
He's not had more than 3 fouls in any of the past 5 games, but he hasn't played 25 minutes in any of those games, either. The closest was this past Saturday when he played 23 minutes and had 3 fouls.

1) Some guys play better off the bench ... I think ZZ is one of those. I love the timing of WHEN we bring him in. I think RB leaves him as the 6th man.
2) Fulky is not ready just yet ... I think 25 minutes per game is about all he can deliver right now. I like him coming in after UROS. I like Uros starting and setting a mood.
There is no question that Fulky is guiding this team ... he talked RB into his way of thinking on the SC game!!!
Did you see the two man game that KC and Fulky played??? I wanted to see it some more and I think we will as time moves on and as JF gets a little more healthy.
JF is making progress, but the rag doll - still shows that he is not fully healthy and strong.
3) I think we miss ON, how much will be decided by BHH, Aidoo, and JM.
4) I suspect that Powell starts in place of ON. Does not appear that VB is playing well enough to take that spot. RB wants a combination of defense, height, and 3 point ability. That's Powell.
5) We are keeping the 4 guard offensive (in the bag) for a surprise. We do NOT want a lot of film out there on it. It will make an appearance when it is ready and when RB is ready - I fear we are just not there yet.

We steal one with a win at MS and then come home and win a tough one against VY ... matching our longest winning streak this season at 4 games.

I wouldn’t consider O our best mid range guy, I think Fulk is better. O was definitely the best ball handler of our front court though

I really hope Fulkerson has had enough time to recover from his illness. I also hope Aidoo has gotten better at our system and has had the game slow down for him; I think him being ready would be our best case scenario at this point.

Being realistic though, I think Powell/Fulk/JJJ/ Mashack will end up taking most of the minutes. BHH just hasn’t been doing a lot with his minutes lately and has too many defensive lapses to be the main recipient of minutes in my opinion.

Edit: I forgot to state the obvious, really stinks that Nkamhoua is out for the year and I feel for him.

That sucks, however, at least it gives other guys an opportunity to step up. I still really believe in Aidoo even though we haven't seen much of him.

His HS highlights are promising and I wish we would give him more minutes. We are very fortunate to have a player like Aidoo here

This is per Evan Miya…

https://evanmiya.com/

Our best lineups are 4 guards, and either Fulk or ON out there, not much difference between the 2 from an efficiency standpoint. It’s gonna hurt, no doubt, Fulk needs to find a 2nd wind and Plav/BHH need to step up.
I agree. Sadly I don’t see either of those things (Fulk to find a second wind and Plav/BHH stepping up) as being likely to happen. ON allowed for even more spacing cause he could knock down shots at all 3 levels and had to at least he respected for it. Our other options struggle around the basket and sure as heck can’t hit from 15 or 3 pt land. Guards will have to cover up this loss more than other posts imo.
